Story
Nelson is a calm, gentle soul who’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. At 2 years old, he’s discovering how to be brave — one step, one cuddle, and one treat at a time (which he takes ever so gently). He walks beautifully on a leash and has a quiet, easygoing nature that makes him a peaceful companion. While he may take a little time to open up to new people, once he trusts you, he simply wants to be loved and snuggled. Nelson would thrive in a patient, nurturing home where someone can help him build confidence and maybe even unlock his playful, silly side. With a little love and encouragement, this sweet boy is ready to blossom into the best version of himself. Are you the one who can help Nelson feel safe and cherished?Breed is based on physical features. All shelter animals are considered to be a mixture of breeds.

Story
Essy is a fantastic balance of chill and driven. She’s happy with low to moderate daily activity, but she really shines when she gets to do bigger adventures, structured training, or have a job to focus on. She’s smart, sensitive, affectionate, and very eager to please—basically a classic Lab brain with a great off switch.Like any young Lab, Essy needs appropriate outlets. She is a chewer (not wildly destructive), and if she doesn’t have something positive to chew on, she may test boundaries by nibbling the edge of a dog bed, couch, or shoe. This behavior is easily redirected with management and consistency, but she will see what she can get away with at first. Because of this, crating while unattended is highly recommended—and she does great in an airline-style crate.Essy is wonderful in public: fun, confident, and easy to take along. She’s very food- and play-motivated, knows her basic commands, is off-leash trained, and walks beautifully on leash of any length. She enjoys working and training and has that drivey, engaged mindset when asked to focus. She does well with other dogs and especially loves playful puppies and younger dogs. She isn’t a pushover—if another dog tries to bully her, she’ll stand her ground—but she does not seek out conflict or start trouble.Essy would thrive in a home that appreciates a smart, athletic, affectionate Lab who wants both enrichment and downtime. Give her structure, boundaries, and things to do, and she’ll be an absolute dream of a companion.Big Paws of the Ozarks is a foster-based dog rescue in Northwest Arkansas. We require an approved adoption application on file before scheduling meets with our dogs. You can find the application here (www.bigpawsozarks.org/adoption-application). Story
Gordy is a very chill house dog. He has a happy, quirky personality and loves his humans. He is a bed hog and loves sleeping as much as he loves eating! He is a sedentery pet as he currently lives in a rental home without access to a yard. Gordy is not a typical lab. He hates water and refused to swim with us in the inground pool of our previous home. Gordy goes to Doggy Day Care 2-3 days a week to ensure he stays socialized as he is an "only dog". He gets along well with his playmates. Gordy needs a fenced in yard in the worst way. He has lived in a home with 2 seniors for his entire life. We rescued him when he was 6 months old. He was our 9th rescue and second lab. It is unknown how he would interact with kids and cats, but my gut tells me it would actually be more than ok as he's a social, love bug. Gordy completed 2 weeks of training with Sit Means Sit. He will sit, stay, heel, come, place and down. He has 2 behavior issues. He has terrible separation anxiety. We do not leave him home alone. We attend doctor appointments and run our errands, etc. when he is at doggy day care. He is leash reactive, so walking him, taking him out for potty breaks, etc. continues to be a non-starter. As aging seniors this has been our tipping point for rehoming. His primary owner is a fall risk with osteoporosis and currently hospitalized with a non-weight bearing injury. He will be moving to a skilled nursing facility for rehab. Gordy is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He's a healthy boy, with no special dietary needs. He eats Farmers Dog, but will arm wrestle you for the last bite of toast or salmon skin. He has had one surgery to remove a fatty tumor. Contact info: 231-571-5888 or vickie.pierson@outlook.com
