Story
Flint is a young lab mix that has a gaze that will break your heart. We don't know all of what all he has been through, but his eyes tell us that he has had rough life so far, but now, after having some time to heal emotionally and physically in a loving foster home, he believes he's a lap dog! He is a very sweet dog, fine around cats. When he first came to us, he had several puncture wounds and scars, which lead us to believe he may have been used as a bait dog. His physical wounds are all healed now, and he's really starting to see that there is truly hope for a good life, He is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. Flint weighs 40 lbs. Flint does not like to be confined, is getting better about being crated, but really prefers to avoid crates. He has also masted house training!

Story
Luna is a spayed, 6 year old lab mix. She has been used to running loose on 20 acres her whole life and sleeping in the garage at night. Luna is seeking a new home with a securely fenced back yard where she will be safe, when she's in the mood to be outside. She's never been an "inside dog" but like all dogs adopted through the Somerset-Pulaski County Humane Society, it is a MUST that her adoptive family welcome her into their home to be part of the family. Don't let Luna's age or the fact that she's never been an "indoor dog" deter you from adopting her. Our experience has been that most former "outside dogs" truly consider being inside a mega-privilege and house train VERY quickly. Some don't need any training at all, just an observant family that can recognize their signals when they need to go outside to potty. Adult dogs are also wonderful to adopt, especially for busy families! They are past the puppy stage of chewing, bouncing all over the place and generally getting into stuff that they shouldn't and usually don't require the constant vigilance of raising a pup. She is incredibly loving and would do well with an active single person or an active couple. Luna loves car rides, she likes hiking and being outdoors with her human. But, Luna doesn’t like other dogs much and really doesn't like cats, so she needs to be the only dog in the household. She is used to teenagers but not small children. Luna is under going some medical treatment right now for heart worms and will be evaluated frequently. She will be brought up-to-date on vaccines prior to adoption.

Wingo is a 7 1/2 years old, 68 lbs. mix breed. He is crate and house trained. Not good with cats. He's a very loving, low-energy guy! He has a thyroid condition, for which he needs daily medication. Since he's been in foster care and received love, proper vet care and daily medication, he's dropped 14 lbs! Now, he's a svelte, proper gentleman!

Story
Meet Fred. Fred spent several months roaming a local community. He often arrived on a family’s porch who would provided food and water. Then he’d be gone for days again. Fred had scars all over him, however, he is a gentle giant with no aggressive tendencies. In deep winter 2023 Fred turned up one night all bloody and limping badly on his front left leg. His jaw was dreadfully swollen. The Somerset-Pulaski County Humane Society was contacted for assistance and Fred taken to a local veterinary hospital for treatment. Diagnosis indicated the leg wasn’t broken but there was a deep abscess. The vet stated that he had several bite-marks puncture wounds as though he’d been chewed up. Fred is estimated at 2 – 3 years old was seriously underweight; only 56 pounds and suffering with Lyme disease. Fred settled into his foster home and has been the perfect patient. However, he will hunker down and tremble any time his foster mom picks up the broom to sweep. It’s heartbreaking to think of all the emotional scars he carries along with those from physical abuse... Fred was neutered and micro chipped after getting healthy and reaching a healthy target weight. Fred is a very gentle and sweet-natured boy who loves to be petted and loves to eat! He Loves having his own dog bed to sleep in and playing with his dog toys. Fred is great with large and small dogs but has no known exposure to cats. He does not appear interested when there are chickens roaming. Fred is great with kids and toddlers. He would make a great addition to a home that was willing to give him the love and attention he needs and deserves! It is unknown just how much horror Fred has endured prior to being rescued, but we are committed to making sure the remainder of his life is safe and filled with love and care.

Story
Flash the Lab……………….. Flash is a three year old lab mix. His family lost their home to a fire in early April. The elderly man of the house had passed away and the woman was living there when a brush fire got out of hand and engulfed the home. The woman moved into Somerset, but is not allowed pets. Flash stayed out on the property alone for some time. He incurred a serious foot injury which has since been treated. He is now being fostered by a friend of the woman with the burned out house but this cannot be a permanent home. Flash is intelligent, obedient, friendly, good with people, kids, dogs and cats but NOT chickens! He is also a "work in progress". He was a totally outside dog prior to being rescued and is not yet fully house broken (but he's learning). He needs a knowledgeable dog owner who is willing to work with him on manners and proper dog behavior. Flash will be neutered soon, is current on vaccinations and is on medications for the injured food and also is taking medicine for heart worm disease, which means that he will not be able to have any strenuous exercise (Crate rest is typically recommended for patients of heart worm disease, but with a young lab, that's darn near impossible!) until his treatment is complete and is is free and clear of heart worms.
