Story
Darcy was found as a stray by animal control and brought to the shelter, so we don't know her history. She is friendly with people and dogs, as long as she is not cornered or pressured. Still has a lot of energy as she is a younger dog. UPDATE: Darcy has been diagnosed with Addison's Disease and will need to be on medication the rest of her life. This is a monthly injection and her electrolytes will have to be checked periodically. Since she has been diagnosed and kept on her medication, her weight has stabilized and she is her happy self, again.A little about Addison's Disease: Addison's Disease in dogs occurs when the adrenal glands stop functioning properly, preventing them from producing the hormones they need. This can affect the dog's stress response and electrolyte balance, and can be caused by a number of factors, including injury, tumors, medication, diseases, or immune-mediated disease. Story
Meet Bruno! Bruno was brought to the shelter due to a bite incident with a small child bothering him while he was in his crate. He is anxious of loud noises (children crying), but can be ok with an older child if monitored. He can be sweet, and fun loving, but will need an experienced owner as he does not like taking direction or being corrected. He loves going for walks, and is always up for a a good game of fetch. He has a unique curl to his tail that just adds to his overall cuteness. Primary Color: Black Weight: 52 Age: 3yrs 6mths 2wks

Story
We have another very special pup to introduce you to and her name is Tart. We guess her to be a lab mix and she was born in our care July of 2020. She and her siblings were all very happy puppies, but as they became older and got closer to weaning, Tart began to lose the function in her back legs. She was born with a parasite called Neospirosis and was the only one in the litter affected by it. By the time our veterinarians figured out what was happening, we were able to get her treated to prevent further damage from spreading. Unfortunately, the joints in her back legs were already deformed. The muscles atrophied and paralyzed leaving her unable to walk. Eventually we were able to fundraise enough to get her a wheelchair, which helped her build the upper body strength needed to support herself. She doesn't walk like a normal dog, but she does an amazing job getting around on her own without anyone's help. Tart's drive to conquer her disability and enjoy life is so inspiring! She does enjoy going outside for short walks and knows the "sit" command. She loves to lay at your feet to be close to you. Tart gets along well with other dogs and absolutely adores attention and affection. Having been born at the beginning of the pandemic, she didn't get the stranger socialization she needed. She is a little slow to make new friends, but is easily won over with treats and love. All Tart has ever known is the shelter and she is a very special part of our Dogwood family. But she is so deserving of a family of her own! However, there are things that should be considered prior to her adoption. Tart isn't incontinent, is partially housetrained, and can certainly be completely housetrained with a schedule. She is not capable of getting in and out of cars on her own, or navigating stairs. She can use a dog door, if it's low enough, but it's still a bit difficult for her. If you're interested in meeting this special girl, or have any question as to meeting her care needs, please don't hesitate to ask! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 50.8 Age: 4yrs 2mths 3wks

Story
Louie was found at Frankie & Louie's as a stray so we don't know his history or how he came to be lost. He is a friendly dog who gets along well with other dogs as long is there is not a toy involved. Louie is selective with other dogs and not good with cats. If kept on a schedule, Louie is housetrained. He pulls on his leash, so needs practice. He recently completed training at the Jeff City Correctional Center's Puppies for Parole Program, so is well versed in commands.Louie is a super sweet and playful guy, his favorite activity being fetch. Primary Color: Black Weight: 83 Age: 5yrs 2mths 3wks

Martini is one the "party pups that was born at the shelter. She is a sweet gal, but a little slow to warm up. Since they have been here all their lives, with others from their litter, they are pretty dependent on each other, some more than others. They all get along well with other dogs and are very playful in a group, or once they get to know you.I AM AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, BUT CURRENTLY AT JEFF CITY CORRECTIONAL CENTER IN THE PUPPIES FOR PAROLE PROGRAM. I WILL BE DONE WITH MY TRAINING NOVEMBER 13, 2024 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ME, PLEASE DO AN APPLICATION AT DASLAKEOFTHEOZARKS.COM. Story
Sunny was originally found as a stray, so not much is known about her past. Early on in her time with us, she was chosen to attend the Puppies for Parole Program, where they worked on house training, crate training, basic obedience, leash skills, and socialization skills. Sunny is good with other dogs. We're unsure how she is with cats. Sunny loves toys! She just needs to learn which toys are hers and which are the home's children's toys. Sunny is a very active girl and loves to go outside to play. Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: White Weight: 44.6 Age: 1yrs 10mths 0wks

Contact SaveMeAdoptMe@gmail.com or text or leave a message at 573-512-2102 for an application. The adoption donation of $175.00 covers spay / neuter, vaccinations, microchip, deworming, and current monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention. This handsome boy and his brothers spent the first 5 months of their lives in a pen, but now are fixed and looking forward to a wonderful future. Their mother was a beautiful auburn and chocolate Doberman and Labrador mix maybe. Milo looks more like a Vizsla. One looked more Doberman. Who knows. They have plenty of puppy energy, but are gentle and love to snuggle and will prove to be wonderful companions. They we're so happy to start living indoors and had no issues with sleeping in a crate at night. They learned how to use a doggie door the first day and are doing great with that, but will need help getting on a schedule and asking to go out if no doggie door in their new home. Although they have been on a leash only limited amount of times, they do pretty good with just some vocal encouragement to follow, but have not mastered staying out from in front of your legs. They have been hanging with 20 dogs during the day with no problem, they have lots of puppy playfulness but are not over rambunctious, and they love to be petted. They did not seem to be familiar with cats, and mostly try to ignore my cats. They are looking for families to take them home and show them what it's like to be part of a family.
