Story
Ryder has a zest for life and a heart full of love. He is truly a GEM of a dog! He is a phenominal athlete and no doubt would be a champion at search & rescue, agility, fly ball, dock diving, disc competition, or anything that involves retrieving! He is off-the-charts smart and motivated, no matter the distractions. Once playtime is over, he also displays a calm independence. Ryder loves rough-and-rowdy playgroups, always keeping his cool, but he’s equally content relaxing on his own or bunking with a buddy. He is kennel trained, housetrained, and has great manners, making him a joy to have around. Ryder enjoys the company of other dogs in his foster home and has a special fondness for water adventures, whether it’s splashing in a pool or trying water jumps. While he hasn’t been tested with cats, his easygoing and playful nature suggests he could adapt well. He has done great with kids he's met at our events and will play fetch all day long. Ryder is looking for an active family with a yard to explore and plenty of love to share. Loyal and always up for a challenge, Ryder is ready to be your adventure partner for life! Ryder was found running along a highway with two other dogs and impounded in rural Missouri. He was never reclaimed after months of waiting. He came to Dolly's Legacy so he could start a new chapter in his life. Ryder is a Black Lab/Border Collie mix who was was born approximately 8-6-23 and weighs 45 lbs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested heartworm negative and started on heartworm prevention. Franklin is an affectionate and well-mannered puppy who adores people and loves to snuggle. Despite his playful nature, he has a surprisingly calm demeanor for his age and finds comfort in his crate, treating it as his personal retreat after an energetic play session. He’s making great progress with potty training and understands that outside is the best place to go. Franklin also walks well on a leash, enjoying every chance to explore his surroundings with curious sniffs. He has the most soulful green eyes that will make you melt. Above all, Franklin’s greatest joy comes from being around people who love him—he thrives on companionship and can’t wait to find a forever home filled with warmth, love, and plenty of cuddle time! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.River is a shy, but affectionate girl with gorgeous soulful eyes, who enjoys going on walks. She doesn't pull and walks great on the leash. She loves going for walks with the other dogs in her foster home. When River arrived, she was petrified and scared of just about everything. She has come a long way since, and is doing great. She gets lots of confidence from being around other the other dogs in her foster home, and having patient humans that are gentle and are able to allow extra time for regular activities , as everything takes a little bit longer with River, due to her being timid. That said, with love and encouragement, she is a fantastic girl who loves you and thrives. Her ideal home will be with a kind, patient adopter who is home a lot, who is willing to go slow with her, and allow plenty of time for her to adjust to her new home. River can be a little bit scared of traffic noises (cars, trucks, motorcycles driving by when she's in the backyard), but she now accepts them for the most part on walks…because she loves walks! River is a little nervous about riding in the car, but does OK and keeps getting better about it, especially when she has dog buddies with her along! River is lovely girl, very sweet, friendly and docile, never a hint of aggression. River is very food-motivated and loves chew toys, food and treats. She enjoys the company of other dogs, and really enjoys playing with other playful dogs. She LOVES to play chase in the backyard and do zoomies with the more playful dog in her foster home. She also likes to lay next to foster dad while he watches TV. She will sleep next to you in bed if allowed, or quietly in her crate if asked to. River is very social. She loves to be wherever you are in the house, usually under the table at your feet, or on the furniture if allowed. And she loves being around her doggy friends. River is shy but gets confidence from other dogs and follows their lead. Because of that, her ideal home will have a dog buddy.  River is a sweet loving girl who doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She loves all dogs, and every human she meets. Anyone that will give her a treat is her friend for life. Her favorite place to go is the local Hardware store because all the ladies know her, love her, and give her treats! River loves hugs, pets, belly rubs and any other human contact. She is docile and is the easiest dog ever to have her nails trimmed. She shows absolutely no resistance and would let you do anything to her. She is very trusting. She is a nice dog buddy and playmate to the other dogs in her foster home. If you are patient, and are looking for a happy, quiet, loving, active, sweet girl who just needs to be shown how to be more confident and realize that she is safe, River is the dog for you! The adoption fee for River is $275, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped.  Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption  for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like any of our dogs,  River would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that her breed needs. Because of that, River’s ideal owners will have prior GSD, or other herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.November 9, 2024, 12:48 pm

Story
Rusty is a very playful, year old mixed breed boy who came from a high kill shelter in Oklahoma.  We've found him to be very curious and eager to explore his new surroundings.  He has a very loving spirit and will climb into your lap and lean into all the snuggles.  While it's unlikely he's had much leash training, he is not pulling on the leash and walking close by.  He seems like a very smart boy who is eager to learn basic commands.  Rusty has expressed interest in meeting and playing with other dogs.  Though he has not been cat tested yet, we suspect he would do just fine with a feline sibling.  Weighing in at 30 lbs, Rusty is a terrific medium size.  His gentle spirit suggests he would do well in a home with children of all ages.  Rusty has all the makings of an amazing pet for an active family who will include him in all their daily fun. *A percentage of Rusty's adoption is sponsored!* The adoption fee is $245 + tax and covers age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter.  We're open from 12-4 PM every day EXCEPT Wednesday! Did you know you don't need to have an appointment to visit our available cats and dogs***? Simply drop by and if you find a potential new furry friend, you can fill out an application on the day you visit. Go to townandcountryanimalrescue.org to fill out our digital application. Applications are typically processed in 3-5 business days. Once you're approved, you can return on the date and time set up by your adoption counselor, with your family and pets for a meet and greet. If it goes well, you can take your new best friend home on the meet and greet day! ***Please note that animals in foster homes cannot be viewed at our rescue, and appointments are still required to meet them. Story
It is with a heavy heart that we have to rehome our sweet dog, Remi. We are moving out of state, and unfortunately, the new place we are renting doesn’t allow pets. On top of that, with the upcoming move, we won’t have the time to give her the attention and care she deserves. Remi is a playful, loving pitbull-lab mix who loves to cuddle and has a ton of energy and she runs around and plays hard. She is full of personality and has so much love to give. However, she is not the best with cats, so she would do better in a home without them. It is a tough decision, but we are hoping to find her the perfect forever home where she can continue to thrive.
