Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sunshine (12 yo) and Vanessa (14 yo) are a bonded pair. Vanessa is tiny and just wants a lap. Sunshine is a barky sassy dachshund girl. Both had recent dentals and had some major extractions. Vanessa is a little hard to keep weight on, and Sunshine is hard to get weight off of. They both love adventuring in their fosters' yard and going for walks. They both love laps and attention. Both are very loyal and loving and chill. Reliability housebroken and crate trained. Sunshine did have an IVDD episode recently where she woke up one day unable to use any of her legs. With some meds and rest, she recovered. We can’t guarantee that won’t happen again, but she shouldn’t do a lot of stairs, jumping, etc. That should help prevent reoccurrences. The girls haven’t been spayed yet. We focused on their dentals as they both have heart murmurs and didn’t want them to stay under too long. We always spay our dogs, but there has been some debate as to whether we should spay these girls. We can discuss that with their adopter! These girls have a momma who loves them desperately but can’t care for them anymore near Winchester, VA. We would request that the adopters stay in touch with her daughter or at least share updates with K Kids that we can share with the family. Go to kkidsrescue.org to apply. The adoption fee is $200 each. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 28, 2024, 8:41 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Flynn (aka "Flynnigan Ryder Swashbuckler Extraordinaire"), age 3-4yrs, Chiweenie, 12lbs. From his foster mom:   Flynn is a completely changed dog from when we first took him in on February 19, 2024. He's put on some much needed weight (his ribs are no longer so visible!), we've gotten his coat much softer and shinier, he's been neutered and all his vaccines updated. He has a super clean bill of health! He still walks with a bit of a swagger, but there is no pain and no sign of current IVDD...It doesn't seem to bother him, he's not in pain, and he still plays and jumps and runs (FAST), just in his own silly little way which makes it all the more endearing (occasionally sliding on the hardwood floors when he's really amped up lol)!!!   As for personality, when we took him in he was scared of everything and everyone (especially men and loud voices) and would cower and hide and didn't want much interaction at all, even flinching from soft slow pets. Well, how times have changed! He is a LOVEBUG! He loves to snuggle and play and get rubs and scratches, he gives the occasional kiss (which is the sweetest, and he has suuuuuch good breath!), gets along perfectly with my other four dogs (one is just a baby puppy, one is a grumpy old woman, one has ants in his pants, and one just wants to sleep....and they all get along with him), has finally figured out what toys are and what to do with them (he's so gentle with toys!), and loooooves to burrow under covers in his fluffy bed or burrow under blankets in the big bed!! He eats Taste of the Wild dry kibble and we mix in a little pumpkin to help with keeping stool regular (it took a good month for his little digestive system to get to a point of normal...but he's been great ever since then). He is not a huge fan of dog treats unless they are the moist / meat ones (ie he will eat a milkbone only as a last resort lol), and he loves all kinds of meat (pieces of unseasoned turkey and chicken are huge favorites) and sometimes a baby carrot is ok, too, but green beans are apparently yucky lol. He's super docile and the baby puppy will literally take food out of Flynn's mouth and he won't react. He will play fight with my two rambunctious pups, but he's so gentle when he does!! He still does not like loud voices and will shrink/cower when he hears it, always thinking he's in trouble (ie. we yelled at one of the dogs to stop chewing on something, and Flynn cowered down and backed away, even though we weren't even in the same room as him). He somehow got all the best traits of chihuahua and dachshund and none of the bad ones!! He literally is the BEST DOG (literally better behaved and well-mannered than any of my four) and would be an absolute treat for the super lucky family that becomes his forever home. We are going to have a major struggle letting him go. To adopt Flynn, go to kkidsrescue.org. His adoption fee is $300.
