NAME:PatchesSTATS:Male, Shih Tzu/Maltese mix, 3 years, 18 lbs.TEMPERAMENT:Friendly.Playful, Affectionate and cuddly, but definitely not JUST a lapdog. Can be humpy and has some very terrier-like behaviors as he gets comfortable so need some continued work on his training and manners.SKILLSDoing great with potty training.Crate trained.Leash trained, but does have some leash reactivity that needs continued work.Loves children, but would be best with kids over 8 due to rough, mouthy puppy play.Good with dogs.Likes walks and needs regular walks/exercise, but not great for hiking. Will need continued basic training and work on puppy manners.MORE ABOUT ME:Likes belly rubs.Couch cuddler.Likes walks and needs regular exercise.Likes playing with other dogs.Loves children, but can play too rough and mouthy for very small kids. Can get very excited and humpy during play.Has some terrier-like behaviors.Needs continued basic training, leash work, and manners.BREED needs regular clippings to avoid matting.PATCHES IS SOOOOO GOOD LOOKINGPatches is a strikingly handsome 3-year-old pup, and his good looks don't go unnoticed! We're regularly stopped on walks by people who want to tell us what a gorgeous dog he is. But Patches is so much more than a pretty faceÂhe's a loving, happy, 18-pound companion with a fun personality.PATCHES IS LOVELY, BUT A LITTLE TOO MUCH FOR VERY YOUNG KIDSPatches absolutely loves people and really enjoys children, but we feel he would be best with kids over about 8 years old. He still has some rough, mouthy puppy-type play and needs to learn to be a little more gentle. He isn't trying to hurt anyone, but his excited play could easily be too much for a very small child.Everyone will enjoy watching him happily play with balls and stuffed toys, but he's equally content settling in for a gentle bone-chewing session or snuggling beside you on the couch for some TV time.PATCHES IS AN ACTIVE GUYThat said, if you're looking for a dog who just wants to sit on your lap all day, Patches isn't quite that guy. He absolutely loves his cuddles, but he also needs his walks, exercise, playtime, structure, and continued training. As he has become more comfortable and come out of his shell, we've seen more of his playful and very terrier-like side. He can be humpy when excited and still needs plenty of work on basic puppy manners, including learning to play more gently.PATCHES WANTS TO BE YOUR HEROPatches takes his job as family protector very seriously. Amazon deliveries, passing people, and other potential 'threats' must all be announced with his strong, enthusiastic bark! Because of this, he would not be a good fit for apartment living.PATCHES LIKES MOST OTHER DOGS, BUT...Patches enjoys the company of most other dogs, although he can get very excited when he sees them on walks and does have some leash reactivity, including barking at other dogs. This is something his adopter will need to continue working on with positive, consistent training. He's a smart boy and absolutely capable of learningÂhe just needs someone willing to put in the work.PATCHES IS SMART AND WOULD BENEFIT FROM TRAININGPatches is also a very quick learner. He figured out the dog door almost immediately! He'll need a little more guidance and consistency to perfect his potty training and general manners, but he's eager to learn.Patches does like to chase cats and squirrels, although he has lived with a cat before and his motivation seems to be more curiosity than anything else.PATCHES NEEDS LOVE, EXERCISE, STRUCTUREWith his loving nature, playful spirit, intelligence, and irresistible good looks, Patches has so much to offer. He's looking for a family who wants the whole dogÂnot just the adorable fluffy couch cuddlerÂand is ready to give him the exercise, structure, training, and commitment he needs to continue becoming the best dog he can be.
