If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from West Chester, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Louie! Approximately 12 years old | 11 lbs | Blind & Deaf | Special Needs Louie is a sweet, senior boy with a quiet spirit and a brave heart. Rescued from a shelter in heartbreaking condition—matted, shut down, and covered in urine and feces—Louie has slowly begun to heal with the help of a calm, consistent foster home. He’s blind and deaf, which means the world can feel confusing to him, but he’s learning that soft voices and gentle touches aren’t something to fear. Louie is not housebroken in the traditional sense, but he uses pee pads in his room and wears a belly band when exploring the rest of the house. He’ll also go outside after meals or naps, especially when he’s on a routine. He sleeps peacefully in one of his beloved dog beds and enjoys moving them around as if nesting. While Louie doesn’t cuddle yet, it’s clear he wants to connect. He’s shown heartwarming progress when approached slowly—he’ll sniff your hand and accept gentle pets. He’s incredibly independent but curious and full of little surprises, like when he sprints across the yard or sneaks into the big dog room to steal food from raised bowls! Because of his blindness and past trauma, Louie has some special needs. He’s sensitive around his face, neck, and feet and is frightened by items that go over his head. Grooming is especially scary for him and will require sedation and a gentle, experienced groomer. Ideal Home: Louie needs a quiet, patient home with a fenced yard, no stairs, and no young children. Other calm, non-assertive pets are okay. His ideal person is someone with a kind heart who’s willing to go at Louie’s pace, showing him slowly what love can feel like. The Reward: With trust and consistency, Louie has already started to blossom. He may never be a lap dog, but in time, he just might surprise you with his courage—and his love

Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Maxwell! Maxwell is a 16-year-old, 17 lb., Lhasa Apso who was surrendered by his owner. He was suffering from painful eyes, infected ears, and bad skin, and it was time for a new beginning. Maxwell was treated for eye ulcers and had one eye removed. He received medication for his ear infections and had a dental. Maxwell is currently receiving medicated baths every two weeks to help with his skin and he will continue to get monthly allergy shots. The cost for the shots is around $50 a month. He also gets eye ointment twice a day and the cost for this is around $15 a month. Maxwell is potty trained and is good with quieter dogs and dog savvy children. He is deaf and has limited vision, so minimal stairs would be best to keep him safe. Maxwell walks well on a leash and would be fine without a yard. Maxwell is a laid back pup who likes moseying around and going on walks. He may be 16, but he still loves his toys and treats. Maxwell will also steal a slipper anytime he can and bring it back to bed with him. All Maxwell needs is a loving home to call his own. Can it please be yours? Apply today!
