Story
Rocky is a 7 yr. old, neutered male bichon. Although Rocky supposedly lived with another dog in his previous home, he's been in foster care for awhile now, and we believe he needs to be an only dog. When he has been with other dogs in his foster home, scuffles and jealousy have been a consistent issue. He's much happier as an only dog. Rocky is house trained as long as he gets out regularly. If he is left alone for long periods of time or not given regular opportunities to go outside, he will mark in the house. Rocky LOVES visitors. He will snuggle up to anyone who comes over to get some love. However, his favorite thing is to just hang with his trusted peeps. We don't have kids in our household, and given his alpha personality, we think Rocky would probably do best in an adult home. However, with all the adult visitors that have come to our house, with very few exceptions, Rocky has been extremely friendly. He is put off by loud, "in your face" behavior. This causes him to be very tentative. If we are running errands and are just going to be running in and out of stores for a minute here and there, Rocky comes along for the ride. He's a great traveler and LOVES coming along. If he's welcome in a store or restaurant and there aren't a lot of other dogs, we bring him along. He's great with PEOPLE, but not so much with other dogs. Rocky is a couch potato when you want to sit on the couch and watch a movie or take a nap. However, he's also extremely active and playful. If you don't feel like playing with him, he'll find a toy or a dog bed and play with it all by himself. He can be a hoot to watch. If he feels you are not giving him an appropriate amount of attention, he will come over and either sit on top of you or "paw" you until you start doing your job! (i.e., petting him or playing with him!) Rocky's photos don't do him justice. We took them when he first arrived and they don't show his true personality. He's absolutely adorable. Just like all bichons, he's adorable, but his personality makes him even cuter. Everyone who visits falls in love with him. Story
Archie is a 14 year old, neutered male bichon. He has lived with his brother, Jethro, for nearly his entire life. Archie and his brother LOVE one another, and we'd like to keep him and his brother together. Both Archie and Jethro are very sweet boys. They came from a very sad situation where the owners, who were quite devoted to the pair, both died. They were the grandparents of the family. After their deaths, the dogs were given to an uncle who promised to care for them. Unfortunately, he was sick with alcoholism. He would leave for days at a time, leaving them trapped in crates with no food or water and no way to escape or go outside for bathroom breaks. Luckily the family became aware of the situation fairly quickly and you can imagine the horrific site they were confronted with when they were able to gain access to the house and get the dogs. At this point, Archie and Jethro are safely in foster care. However, they are living in a home where there is a dog-aggressive dog. For this reason they have to remain separated. Everyone is doing their best to make the most of a less than ideal situation. The two boys have been groomed and have been fully vetted. Both have had their teeth cleaned under anesthesia. They each lost a couple of teeth, but only a couple, which is a tribute to the care they received while living with their original owners - the grandparents. Archie had two 'warts' removed - one from his ear & the other from his chin. They are both as happy as can be and doing great. Fully recovered at this point and ready to embark on a new adventure together. Are you their new family? Bichons can live 18-20+ years. Are you that special family, willing to take a chance on a pair of wonderful dogs who are just looking for a quiet household where they can spend their 'golden years'? If so, go to our website and fill out an adoption application. They are very friendly, low-key boys. Not high-maintenance or needy at all. Just very appreciative to be in a good home where they are getting regular attention, regular meals and regular access to a fenced yard for exercise and bathroom breaks. If you'd consider adopting these two boys and giving them a home for their golden years, complete an application on our website: www. dvbr. org and someone will be in touch once we have had a chance to review it to set up a visit at which time you can meet the two boys. Story
Nino is a neutered male bichon. He has lived with his companion, Nina, since he was about 2 years old. They are bonded but CAN be separated if absolutely necessary. Nino is 100% housetrained, neutered, and just had his teeth cleaned at the vet. He loves other dogs & people. He is extremely affectionate, very loving, and quite active, but also loves to cuddle on the couch. Nino and his companion, Nina, lived with a woman who recently died of cancer. They were turned over to rescue by a friend after their owner passed away. If you are interested in Nino, or better yet, in BOTH dogs, please complete an application which you can access on our website: www.dvbr.org OR by clicking here: https://dvbr.wufoo.com/forms/zoa3yk4014ohn8/ . Once we have your application, we will contact you to arrange a home visit & discuss the next step. Bichons are a VERY youthful breed & often live 18-20+ years. They are often mistaken for puppies, even when they are elderly. Nino & Nina are spunky little dogs with plenty of life left. Anyone familiar with the breed probably already knows this.
We'll also keep you updated on Nina's adoption status with email updates.

Story
Nina is an 8 y/o (ish) female bichon. She is spayed, just had a dental cleaning at the vet, and she is ready to go once we find her perfect family. She has always lived with Nino, the 10 year old male that is also posted on our website, and we'd LOVE for them to find a home together, but it is not absolutely essential. They can be split up if necessary. Nina is a loving, affectionate dog who LOVES to cuddle with her family members, but she is also quite playful. She came to rescue after her owner passed away due to cancer and was taken in by a family friend. Unfortunately, that friend had 3 other dogs of her own, two of which were puppies and one an elderly dog. So taking on two more was simply not an option. But she ADORED Nina and Nino and would have definitely kept them if it were not for the three she already had. If you are interested in Nina, please complete an application by visiting our website: www.dvbr.org OR click here: https://dvbr.wufoo.com/forms/zoa3yk4014ohn8/ to go directly to the application. Once we have it we will contact you to discuss the next steps, the first of which being a home visit where we would come to meet you & you would get to meet Nina and possibly her companion, Nino.

Story
Jethro is a 13-year-old, neutered male bichon. He is the brother of Archie. He is extremely friendly and loves to play and is the more active of the two boys. Click on Archie's listing to read more about the situation from which the two boys came and to read more about how to apply. Both boys have been groomed, have had a dental cleaning, and are ready to go off on a new adventure. We would consider adoptive or foster homes for these two boys since they are currently in a foster home where a dog aggressive dog resides. Therefore, they must remain separated from the other dog at all times and this is very challenging for the foster family. However, they came from a very terrible situation and needed to be removed immediately so the family agreed to take them. However, if we can find a more suitable foster family, we will consider moving them unless an adoptive one becomes available first. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from West Chester, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Louie! Approximately 12 years old | 11 lbs | Blind & Deaf | Special Needs Louie is a sweet, senior boy with a quiet spirit and a brave heart. Rescued from a shelter in heartbreaking condition—matted, shut down, and covered in urine and feces—Louie has slowly begun to heal with the help of a calm, consistent foster home. He’s blind and deaf, which means the world can feel confusing to him, but he’s learning that soft voices and gentle touches aren’t something to fear. Louie is not housebroken in the traditional sense, but he uses pee pads in his room and wears a belly band when exploring the rest of the house. He’ll also go outside after meals or naps, especially when he’s on a routine. He sleeps peacefully in one of his beloved dog beds and enjoys moving them around as if nesting. While Louie doesn’t cuddle yet, it’s clear he wants to connect. He’s shown heartwarming progress when approached slowly—he’ll sniff your hand and accept gentle pets. He’s incredibly independent but curious and full of little surprises, like when he sprints across the yard or sneaks into the big dog room to steal food from raised bowls! Because of his blindness and past trauma, Louie has some special needs. He’s sensitive around his face, neck, and feet and is frightened by items that go over his head. Grooming is especially scary for him and will require sedation and a gentle, experienced groomer. Ideal Home: Louie needs a quiet, patient home with a fenced yard, no stairs, and no young children. Other calm, non-assertive pets are okay. His ideal person is someone with a kind heart who’s willing to go at Louie’s pace, showing him slowly what love can feel like. The Reward: With trust and consistency, Louie has already started to blossom. He may never be a lap dog, but in time, he just might surprise you with his courage—and his love

Maxwell is a 16-year-old, 17 lb., Lhasa Apso who was surrendered by his owner. He was suffering from painful eyes, infected ears, and bad skin, and it was time for a new beginning. Maxwell was treated for eye ulcers and had one eye removed. He received medication for his ear infections and had a dental. Maxwell is currently receiving medicated baths every two weeks to help with his skin and he will continue to get monthly allergy shots. The cost for the shots is around $50 a month. He also gets eye ointment twice a day and the cost for this is around $15 a month. Maxwell is potty trained and is good with quieter dogs and dog savvy children. He is deaf and has limited vision, so minimal stairs would be best to keep him safe. Maxwell walks well on a leash and would be fine without a yard. Maxwell is a laid back pup who likes moseying around and going on walks. He may be 16, but he still loves his toys and treats. Maxwell will also steal a slipper anytime he can and bring it back to bed with him. All Maxwell needs is a loving home to call his own. Can it please be yours? Apply today!

Fluffy is a 14-year-old Shih Tzu who lost the only home she’d ever known. When she first came to us, she was heartbroken—shut down and withdrawn. But with patience and love, this little sweetheart has started to come back to life and is now ready for her second chance. Fluffy is housebroken (as long as she’s taken out regularly) and has a few age-related limitations. She has vision in only one eye, limited hearing, and some heart disease. She takes two medications daily (just $40/month), and the good news is—she’s doing great on them! Her favorite things? Sniffing around the yard, enjoying the fresh air, and doing her signature happy spin when it’s time to eat, go outside, or just because she’s feeling joyful! Fluffy is very easygoing and would prefer a home with another calm dog companion. While she’s not a lap dog, she loves to be near you—on the couch, in bed, or just keeping you company. Best of all, she’s wonderful with kids of all ages. Fluffy would be the perfect match for someone who works from home or is retired and wants a quiet, loving buddy by their side. Help us give Fluffy the happy ending she so deserves. Apply to adopt this gentle, joyful little girl today!
