Story
Sophie is a 14-year-old, 8-pound Maltese who has lived her whole life as a pampered princess and sees absolutely no reason to stop now. This is one spunky feisty girl! She is not here for chaos. Not here for loud households, small grabby humans, or dogs who don't understand the concept of personal space. She has standards. They are non-negotiable and she expects her wishes to be followed! Here is what Sophie has requested...ok, demanded: a calm home, a person who appreciates a dog with a personality, and access to good food. She is a committed foodie and she will absolutely judge you for the quality of what ends up in her bowl. She's not a lap dog. Let's be clear about that. She's not going to drape herself across you and stare adoringly into your eyes (Even though she will give you some sweet kisses... If you're lucky). She's more of a "I'll be in the same room and I know exactly where you are at all times" kind of companion. Independent but loyal. She keeps tabs.  At 14 she has some hearing loss and her vision is declining, which mostly means she has stopped pretending to listen to things she disagreed with anyway. No known health issues beyond that. She is spunky, she is feisty, and she has absolutely no interest in slowing down. Sophie is a wonderful senior dog that is fully, completely, unapologetically herself. No guessing, no waiting to see who she'll become.  The person who adopts Sophie isn't just rescuing her. They're getting extremely lucky If you have further questions about Sophie, you can contact 4leggedlayover@gmail.comMarch 25, 2026, 9:28 pm

Story
Pinkey is an 8 years 3 month old Maltese mix weighing 18 pounds. She came to the shelter as a stray so her history is unknown. Pinkey was born to be pampered! This little lady prefers the finer things in life, like all the warm blankets to cuddle and burrow in! Pinkey likes everyone she meets and is affectionate. She does not show interest in toys here at the shelter. Is content to sit next to you or near by on her blankets. Needs work with housebreaking. Treat motivated-but on a weight loss journey. She does not like the cold! Tolerates baths-does not like her face messed and was sassy & mouthy with groomer. She's been to the veterinarian while in our care for her spay, dental (removing 3 teeth) and the removal of 4 cysts. Mild cataracts in both eyes. Shows interest in cats, wants to play with them, no prey drive. Separation anxiety-does not like to be alone. Has puppy energy. Good guard dog-alert to people and sounds-will bark. Good with other dogs but wants to hump them (no matter their size). Has resource guarding with food and treats. Her adoption fee is $150, this includes her spay, heartworm test, vaccines current, deworming, heartworm/flea prevention and micro chipped. Her dog license is also required to be purchased for Sandusky County residents at time of adoption, which is an additional $21.00. Please visit the shelter to meet her, we show dogs Monday through Friday 1pm-4:30pm and Saturday 1pm-3:30pm.
