Story
Prince is a sweet senior Maltipoo who deserves to spend the rest of his life knowing nothing but comfort, safety, and love. ❤️ Prince and Minnie came to Cactus Ranch Rescue after spending about a year living outdoors in a San Antonio backyard through the Texas heat. Despite everything they endured, Prince is still such a happy little guy with a BIG personality. He is vocal, playful, affectionate, and always happy to see you. Prince loves attention, loves to play, and has plenty of pep left in him. He definitely has opinions and is not afraid to tell you all about them. 😂 He came to us needing medical care, including attention for significant eye damage caused by an infection that had been left untreated for far too long. Thankfully, Prince can still see, and he is continuing follow-up care so we can make sure he stays comfortable and healthy. He also needs a dental as part of getting him fully back on track. 🐾 Senior Maltipoo ❤️ Happy, affectionate & playful 🗣️ Vocal little guy with tons of personality 👀 Receiving continued care for previous eye damage 🦷 Dental care being handled through CRR ✂️ Freshly groomed and feeling fabulous 🏡 Finally getting the indoor life he deserved all along Prince would LOVE to find a forever home with Minnie, who we suspect may actually be his mom. They have already been through so much together, and while we will always focus on finding the best placement for each dog, seeing these two get to stay together would be incredibly special. 🥹 Prince has already lost enough time to neglect. Now he deserves a soft bed, air conditioning, toys, cuddles, and a family who thinks his little conversations are just as adorable as we do. His past may have been rough, but his forever can be beautiful. 👑❤️

Story
Minnie is a sweet senior Maltipoo who has already endured far more than any little dog should. She and Prince came to Cactus Ranch Rescue after spending about a year living outdoors in a San Antonio backyard through the Texas heat. When Minnie arrived, it was immediately clear how badly she had been neglected medically. Her mouth was one of the worst we have seen — severely infected, painful, and full of rotting teeth. She also has damage to one of her eyes from a previous untreated infection, along with arthritis and instability in both back knees. Despite all of that, Minnie is still an incredibly loving, happy little girl. ❤️ She is currently receiving the medical care she has needed for far too long, including pain management, dental care, and treatment to help keep her comfortable and moving. 🐾 Senior Maltipoo ❤️ Sweet, affectionate & loving 🛏️ VERY appreciative of a soft, cozy indoor life 🦷 Receiving extensive dental care 👀 Can still see despite previous eye damage 🦴 Receiving treatment for arthritis and wobbly back knees 🏡 Ready for someone to spoil her rotten Minnie is believed to possibly be Prince’s mom, and we would absolutely love to see these two find a forever home together if the right family comes along. After everything they have been through side by side, watching them spend their golden years together would be pretty special. 🥹 Minnie’s body may tell the story of years without proper care, but her personality tells you something completely different: she is happy, loving, forgiving, and so ready to be somebody’s baby. She deserves soft blankets, good food, air conditioning, cuddles, and a family who makes up for every day she went without.

Story
Meet Khloe, short for Klonopin, a tiny 14-year-old, 7-pound dose of sweetness. Possible side effects of Khloe include warm laps, cozy naps, excessive cuteness, and becoming completely obsessed with this precious senior girl. 🐾Khloe gets along with dogs, cats, and children. She uses pee pads and will often let you know when she needs to go outside, although she may occasionally have an accident if she can’t reach the pad in time. At night, she may lick your face, become restless, or stand near the edge of the bed to tell you she needs a potty break. Consider it your gentle, four-legged wake-up call! ⏰🐶Her favorite sleeping spot is beside her person, and she would happily share the bed with you. If you prefer a little more space, a cozy dog bed next to yours should also keep her content. During the day, she sometimes wanders into an open dog kennel for a nap, so she seems to view it as her own safe and comfortable retreat.Khloe’s main challenge is separation anxiety. She becomes distressed and barks when left alone, so her ideal adopter would be retired, work from home, or be able to include her in daily outings. Her prescription is simple: stay close, provide plenty of comfort, and administer love as often as possible! 💗Khloe is low energy, easygoing, and doesn’t require much exercise. She wants nothing more than a soft place to rest and a person who will keep her close.Think this sweet senior could be just what the doctor ordered? Apply to adopt Khloe and get your daily dose of love!To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.

Story
Meet Snoopy Male DOB: November 14, 2021 (estimated) Weight: 15 pounds Breed: Terrier / Poodle Mix Neutered (Fixed) Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Snoopy is a calm, loving little dog with a gentle personality and very sweet nature. He enjoys companionship, quiet affection, and simply being close to his people. Snoopy has a mellow, easygoing energy and would thrive in a peaceful, loving home where he feels safe and included. He also gets along well with: Dogs One important thing to note is that Snoopy can become protective over food around other dogs. If there is only one food bowl available, he may try to keep the other dogs away from it. This is not uncommon in rescue dogs, especially dogs who may have experienced food insecurity or survival situations in the past. Because of this, Snoopy would do best with: Separate feeding areas Structured mealtimes Supervision around food with other dogs Slow, patient guidance and routine Outside of mealtime, Snoopy is described as affectionate, calm, and very loving. As a Terrier / Poodle mix, Snoopy may show traits such as: Intelligence and emotional sensitivity Strong attachment to his people Affectionate and companion-oriented behavior Alertness and awareness A calmer but engaging personality Snoopy would thrive in a home that can provide: Daily companionship and affection Structure and routine Patience and understanding A calm, stable indoor environment He would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a gentle, loving dog with a sweet soul. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from very different backgrounds. Some may have previously lived in homes, while others may have come from the streets, overcrowded shelters, neglect situations, or environments where they had little structure or guidance. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even dogs who appear calm and well-behaved in foster care or at the rescue are still adjusting and learning. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should expect to continue support and guidance after adoption. Snoopy will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Structure and consistency Calm introductions and routine Supervised feeding routines around other dogs Patience during adjustment periods Continued socialization and companionship Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, stability, and commitment, rescue dogs often blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes companionship, routine veterinary care, training, exercise, mental stimulation, and financial responsibility. Snoopy will need: Routine veterinary care and updated vaccines Flea prevention and deworming treatment Continued training and guidance Daily companionship and interaction Proper nutrition and preventative care A safe, stable, indoor living environment Because Snoopy is a Poodle mix, routine grooming and coat maintenance will also be important to help keep him comfortable and healthy. Consistent veterinary care, emotional stability, proper nutrition, and patience are all essential to helping Snoopy continue thriving in his future home. Snoopy is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside.
