Story
One of the things that we promise every dog that comes through our doors is that no matter what happens they will always be welcomed back. That is a promise that we have kept twice for DARLA and ELLA!
This sweet bonded pair of Maltipoo sisters was originally surrendered to us in 2019. They were adopted and then returned in 2022 because of their owners declining health. They were adopted again and just came back, again, because their owner passed away.
DARLA and ELLA are 13 years old. Darla weighs 13.6 pounds and her sister Ella weighs 14.9 pounds. They have been together their whole lives and are not adoptable separately. This is a pair that needs to stay together!
DARLA (white with black) is as sweet as can be! She loves to be petted and loved on. Darla is more outgoing and social than her sister. She is a happy and spunky girl! She eats and drinks very well and seems happy. Being an older gal, she sleeps a lot but will get bursts of energy and will run and hop around the house and yard. She is not potty trained, but she does pretty well on potty pads. She walks well on a leash and gets excited to go for short walks but she gets tired quickly. She is mostly deaf but might be able to hear very loud noises. She has very limited vision. She can see shadows, figures and movements, however, when it is dark, she is completely blind.
ELLA (mostly black) is very attached to her sister and cannot go anywhere without her. She is more shy and reserved and will hide behind her sister a little, but still enjoys getting love. She loves to cuddle up with her sister for naps. Ella is very protective of Darla and will nip if you are doing something to Darla that Ella doesn't like (such as picking up Darla. We think she is afraid that someone is going to take her sister away). Ella is a little overweight, but we are working on it. She can hear and see well. She eats and drinks well. Ella waits for Darla to eat first and then she will go in and eat the rest of the food. She also does very well on the leash and gets so excited to go places! She is not potty trained, but will mostly go on the potty pad as long as one is close.
DARLA and ELLA just need somewhere to live out the rest of their lives in a peaceful environment full of love. They would be happiest with a family as the only dogs. We would not recommend a home with kids due to their age and we don't know how they would be with cats. A fenced yard is preferred.
DARLA and ELLA have been to the vet for a wellness check, are up to date on shots, spayed, just got a dental cleaning, are heartworm negative, have each had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and are microchipped with lifetime registrations.

We are a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola FL and adopt within a 6-hour drive to Pensacola. Local applicants will be given first consideration. Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments and dogs with behavioral issues are local adoption only.
