Story
Currently in a Vancouver foster home Hello… my name is Hari. I’m a 5-year-old Maltese mix girl, about 6kg, and for the first time in my life… I’m learning what it means to live for myself. For many years, my whole world was a tiny metal cage. No sunlight. No soft voice calling my name with love. Only the sound of humans demanding one thing from me over and over—to be a mother, again and again, even though I never got to hold or keep any of my babies. Whenever my puppies were taken from me, I tried to chew through the bars to reach them. My teeth became worn down from trying so hard… trying to find them, trying not to give up. I cried quietly and waited, hoping someone would finally come for me. One day, someone did. I was rescued—saved from that place—and for the very first time, I was given a chance to live a life that belongs to me. A life where I never have to breed again. A life where nothing precious is taken away from me anymore. I’m a very calm, very gentle girl. I hardly ever bark. And when I see people, fear isn’t the first thing I feel—joy is. I walk toward you slowly, shyly, but with a little wagging tail… hoping you’ll notice me. Hoping you’ll love me. But everything outside that cage is new to me. Home life, walks, daily routines, learning where to go potty… I’m five years old, but in many ways, I’m just beginning. I will need someone patient, someone kind, who can teach me what every dog should’ve known from the start—that I’m safe, that I’m wanted, and that love doesn’t disappear. I love people more than anything. I feel most at peace when I’m beside a human. If the house is empty for too long, I might become anxious… not because I’m difficult, but because I spent so many years wondering if anyone would ever stay. I’m learning that family means “forever,” and I hope you can show me what that feels like. I don’t want to be a tool anymore. I want to be a family member. I want to spend the rest of my life giving and receiving love—real love, the kind that stays. I’m searching for someone who will become my very first true family. Someone who will fill the years I have left with warmth, safety, and memories I’ve never been allowed to have. If you choose me… I promise I will give you every bit of my heart. With hope, Hari 🤍🐾

Story
Youngtu | 7 years old | Poodle Name: Youngtu Age: 7 years Sex: Spayed female Breed: Poodle Coat: Beige Weight: 3.2 kg Height: 30 cm (shoulder height)   Rescue Story   Youngtu was adopted as a puppy, but due to her adopter’s life circumstances—including the birth of a child and an overseas work assignment—she was unfortunately surrendered and returned to rescue. She has now been living in a foster home for about one month, where she has been adjusting well and enjoying the stability of home life again.   ‍ Human Socialization Youngtu is very affectionate and people-oriented. She approaches both familiar and unfamiliar people happily, rubs against them, and enjoys being touched. She tends to seek a lot of human attention and companionship.   She has not had direct experience with children under 13. Youngtu is comfortable being picked up with an arm under her belly and will often show her belly even to people she has just met—an indication of her friendly and trusting nature.   Dog Socialization Youngtu will approach unfamiliar dogs to greet them but generally does not engage in play. She tends to feel intimidated by dogs larger than herself.   If another dog provokes her, she may react defensively, so careful introductions are important, especially with new or unfamiliar dogs. When a new dog enters a space she was already occupying, she may attempt to assert herself by nipping toward the other dog’s rear or rushing toward them in a confrontational way. Proper management and guidance are recommended in multi-dog settings.   Cats On walks, Youngtu may look at cats with curiosity, but she follows her handler well and redirects easily when guided.   Energy Level Youngtu has a moderate energy level. She enjoys outdoor activities and walks, but settles calmly and rests quietly afterward.   ‍ Walks Youngtu is generally does not pull. She follows her handler well. When encountering other dogs on walks, she may sometimes pass calmly, but at other times may initiate or respond to tension—especially if the other dog growls. While injuries have not occurred, brief scuffles can happen, so continued leash manners training and attentive handling are recommended.   Additional Notes • No food guarding toward people • May growl if another dog approaches while she is eating (separate feeding works well) • Calm and well-mannered in a crate • Currently potty trained for both indoor and outdoor elimination   Youngtu is a loving, human-focused companion who would thrive in a home that can provide guidance, structure, and thoughtful dog introductions. With the right environment, she will be a deeply devoted and affectionate family member. Apply to adopt or foster https://adoptmekr.org  Please also visit our Facebook or Instagram.
