Story
Dante: The Reluctant RomanticDante believes that love is a wonderful thing. He would simply prefer to get to know you first. You see, Dante is not the kind of fellow who rushes into relationships. When he meets someone new, he likes to observe, consider his options, and determine whether this particular human deserves access to his heart. He has standards, after all.But once Dante decides you're trustworthy, the situation changes considerably.Suddenly, there's a very important matter to discuss.Chest rubs.Dante is a devoted enthusiast of chest rubs, cuddles, and the kind of affection that makes a dog close his eyes and forget about the rest of the world. He also appreciates a comfortable bed, preferably one that allows him to recover properly from the exhausting responsibilities of being adorable. He's playful with other dogs, enjoys their company, and has a medium energy level. He likes having opportunities to play, but he's equally happy settling down for some well-deserved relaxation. His story began in circumstances no puppy should ever experience.Dante and his three siblings were abandoned outdoors when they were still babies, left on a blanket with no one to care for them. Two of his siblings did not survive. Dante and one other puppy fought their way through those difficult early days.Perhaps that helps explain why Dante is careful about giving his trust. But it certainly hasn't stopped him from wanting to love.Today, Dante knows “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and how to walk nicely alongside his person. He's a clever, well-mannered boy who would thrive in a home with a patio, friendly dogs, and people willing to give him the patience and affection he deserves.Cats, however, are not on his guest list.Dante doesn't need someone who expects instant devotion from the first hello. He needs someone who understands that some of the best relationships begin slowly.A little patience.A little kindness.A comfortable bed.And perhaps a hand conveniently positioned for chest rubs.Because once Dante gives you his heart, you'll understand why he was worth waiting for. This dog is currently in foster care in La Paz, Mexico, but will be transported upon adoption or foster placement. As a U.S. nonprofit, Hope 4 La Pawz, handles all logistics and provides full behavioral and medical info in advance.

Story
JAY: The Outdoor Recreation SpecialistSome dogs require an extensive collection of expensive toys.Jay has a coconut. He's fine.Give this young guy a stick, a coconut, another dog and somewhere interesting to explore, and Jay considers the day's entertainment fully organized.Jay is playful, friendly and endlessly curious. He loves walks, rides beautifully in the car, enjoys dogs of every size and age, and is always eager to be included in whatever his humans are doing. He's also comfortable around cats, making him a remarkably flexible candidate for a guy whose primary qualifications include expertise in coconut-related recreation.Jay is still very young—almost a puppy—so he needs a family that actually wants to do things with their dog. Walks, adventures, games and canine friends are all high on his list. A sedentary lifestyle is not. He's smart and eager to learn, and he's already mastered “sit,” “come” and walking nicely with his person. With continued training, Jay seems quite prepared to add additional qualifications to his résumé.His story didn't begin nearly as happily. Jay was found lying in the street, very thin and suffering from several bite wounds on his leg and body. And yet, he was friendly.Whatever happened before that day apparently didn't convince Jay that the world—or the people and animals in it—weren't worth knowing.Today, he's much more interested in what's next.Jay would thrive with an active person, couple or family. Kids or teenagers who want a four-legged adventure partner would be a bonus, and another dog would give him someone to help with the important daily work of running, wrestling and investigating the yard.More than anything, Jay wants to be part of the pack.Fortunately, his employment requirements are quite reasonable.Love him. Include him. Take him places. And perhaps keep a coconut handy. This dog is currently in foster care in La Paz, Mexico, but will be transported upon adoption or foster placement. As a U.S. nonprofit, Hope 4 La Pawz, handles all logistics and provides full behavioral and medical info in advance.

Story
Sweet Penny is looking for her special human. Penny is just six years old and has survived trauma, neglect, and breast cancer. After landing in a local shelter, Penny got much needed love and a full dental. They also discovered she needed cancer surgery. This has all given Penny a new lease on life and she is now a happy cancer-free little girl! Penny gets along well with other dogs and has enjoyed time at doggy daycare. Penny's number one desire is to have her very own human. She bonds quickly and deeply with that one special person she desires, with her preference being women. Penny is a terrific snuggler and she loves to sleep with her person. She is scared of men, although in time, she would likely learn to trust a very kind and patient man. Penny is not fond of kids. She has been around a cat, which she was mostly jealous of. Penny wants and deserves to be someone's main squeeze! Penny is affectionate, cuddly, playful and super smart! She has excellent manners and has learned many tricks. She loves, loves, loves her toys! Penny can never have too many toys! Penny weighs about 10 pounds. If you are looking for a cuddly best friend, Penny is all that and more. She has been spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped.
