Story
Bear is looking for a fresh start with a family who will love him just as much as his previous family did! Unfortunately, Bear’s family was moving out of state and wasn’t able to bring him along, so now this sweet boy is hoping to find his next forever home. The good news? He has lots of wonderful qualities to bring to the table, including great house manners, a snuggly personality, and a growing appreciation for life’s little adventures! Bear is potty trained and has been known to be such a good boy. He knows to wait by the door when he needs to go outside, and he was generally well-behaved when left alone in the home. He may occasionally sneak off with a shoe, though, so keeping plenty of fun alternatives available is a good idea! Bear has discovered that toys and enrichment are excellent ways to keep himself busy, and this playful, active guy thrives when he has structure and positive outlets for his energy. His favorites include soccer balls and stuffies, but he also enjoys stuffed Kongs, puzzles, and anything that lets him put that brain to work! Keeping him mentally engaged, providing opportunities for play, and giving him a consistent routine will help set him up for success. He generally walks well on leash and responds well to redirection when something exciting catches his attention. He also knows “sit,” “down,” “treat,” “off,” and “come”!Bear is a loyal, affectionate guy who loves his people and enjoys a good snuggle. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, especially men, but he has been doing well with new introductions here at the shelter. He recently went on his very first Miles & Mutts adventure and had a great time! We love seeing him step outside his comfort zone and discover that new experiences can be pretty wonderful. Bear’s history with other animals is unknown, and as far as we know, he did not previously live with other pets. Here at the shelter, he can feel intimidated around other dogs and may be vocal. Because we don’t know how he would do in a home with other animals, slow, thoughtful introductions are especially important. We strongly encourage a dog meet-and-greet with any potential canine companions to help determine compatibility and set everyone up for success. Bear may not be the first guy to jump into the middle of the party, but once he feels comfortable and loved, his personality starts to shine! He’s a sweet, loyal companion who enjoys his comforts, loves a good cuddle, and is learning to embrace new adventures. With a little patience, plenty of enrichment, and a family willing to let him settle in at his own pace, we think Bear has so much happiness ahead of him. Now he just needs someone to share it with!
