Because of her unknown past, we can only assume she has had some sort of abuse which is why she does not like or will tolerate being restrained, hugged or forced in any way. Therefore she will need a special family and handler who can be patient and calm, yet a strong leader. They will need time to get to know that fine line of too much or not enough when it comes to her training and corrections. She is very food driven therefore training is fun because she learns quickly. Once she trusts you, she will give you kisses, lay against you, and become very playful. She can get overstimulated with playtime, but she is easily calmed with treats and by doing commands. Uma will need a home with older kids, or no kids, and she needs special instruction and meds for any vet visits.

Mildred is a gentle, resilient girl who has already come such a long way since coming into care. When she first arrived, she was extremely underweight, but with proper care, she has gained healthy weight and continues to show just how strong she is. Mildred is dog friendly and would do best with a calm, respectful canine companion who understands personal space. She is also kid friendly. Mildred is approximately 90% blind. She can see movement but primarily navigates the world through shadows, sounds, and her other senses. Despite her limited vision, she does remarkably well and is learning to confidently navigate her surroundings. Because of her needs, Mildred is looking for a family where someone can be home with her most of the time. She needs frequent opportunities to go outside to help prevent accidents in the house. She will also need patience as she learns the layout and routine of her new home. Mildred is heartworm negative, has completed her treatment, and is spayed and ready for adoption. Mildred is ready for a peaceful home where she can enjoy the simple things: soft beds, gentle companionship, a consistent routine, and plenty of love. She has overcome so much and now just needs someone willing to give her the safe, loving forever home she deserves.
