Story
Meet Duk Duk Goose! This resilient, incredibly happy 6-year-old, long-haired dachshund is looking for a special hero to give him the fresh start he truly deserves.
Duk Duk Goose originally found himself at animal control through no fault of his own after his owner was incarcerated, and family contacts were unable to step forward. When he first arrived at Border Tails, he was in rough shape with a heavily matted and dirty coat, but beneath that neglect is a vibrant guy with an absolute heart of gold and a big personality to match his little sausage body!
Despite a tough past and initial back-half paralysis, Duk Duk Goose doesn’t let anything slow him down. He is an extremely friendly, happy, and excitable dog who loves human attention and greets the world with bright eyes and endless wiggles.
His Medical Journey
Duk Duk Goose is currently managing suspected Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). While this spinal condition initially left him completely dragging his lower body, he has been making a miraculous recovery thanks to a multi-modal medical plan initiated in early June 2026. He is currently on a daily regimen of oral medications—including a muscle relaxant, nerve pain medication, and a steroid taper—combined with specialized electro-acupuncture sessions. He has responded beautifully to therapy; just a few weeks after starting, he was caught on video actually WALKING with his back legs!
What He Needs in a Forever Home
To keep him on this incredible path, Duk Duk Goose needs a dedicated adopter who can commit to his long-term care.
Medical Maintenance: His adopter should budget for lifelong daily muscle/nerve pain medications and routine preventative electro-acupuncture sessions (recommended) to keep him comfortable and prevent future IVDD flare-ups. He will also eventually need dental TLC for advanced plaque (recommended).
Routine Care: While his mobility is improving, he may continue to experience incontinence. He needs a family prepared to manage his bathroom needs, keep his handsome coat clean, and monitor for minor friction sores.
Duk Duk Goose has a phenomenal, resilient spirit and so much love to give. With a committed family and proper medical oversight, he is ready to live his absolute best life!
