FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60619 ESTIMATED DOB: 2013 WEIGHT: 9.5 lbs KIDS: Older DOGS: Yes CATS: Yes HISTORY: Motor came to us from a local Animal Control facility where he was turned in as a stray. ABOUT: Motor’s foster mom said he is a “pretty regular dog.” Motor is cuddly and loves attention. He is smart and quickly and easily adapts to your schedule. He is very food motivated for any training needs. His foster mom says he sometimes “doesn’t hear you” the first time you ask, but does as asked if you repeat yourself. Motor is good on leash and enjoys going for walks. He also enjoys lounging outside when the weather is nice, but isn’t a fan of very hot weather. He is a little anxious in the car and gives a quiet whine until he gets to the destination. Motor knows both sit and come. He also enjoys stuffed toys (especially if you play with him), but the rope toys with stuffies on the end only collect dust. Motor has been fine with everyone he has met both inside and outside the home, he seems to be pretty easy going with new people and doesn’t get overly excited. He seems to look to his foster mom for guidance on how to act with new people. Motor’s foster mom keeps him gated in one room of the house when no one is home, but even at 13 he has come up with some creative solutions to get under or over it. His foster mom said “I guess you can say he is really not closed off” 🤣 Motor is being fostered with a cat and other dogs and he has done well with both. Motor is not being fostered with children, but his foster thinks he will do fine with kids old enough to be respectful of a senior dog. Motor is housetrained, but like many male dogs he likes to do the occasional recreational peep, but he is agreeable to wearing belly bands to control this. Motor will bark to let you know he needs a potty break. Being a senior fellow, Motor will probably thrive in a home with a reasonable amount of routine and consistency. Three-year-old Lily and her three five-month-old pups came to us after being rescued from a breeding facility, and she is just beginning to learn what love feels like. When she got to us Lily got a fresh mini groom, a pup cup, and plenty of love and attention from one of our favorite grromers — but most importantly, she received something of her very own: a name. At three years old, that is something she had never had before. We chose the name Lily because it represents innocence and rebirth, and we can’t think of a more fitting meaning for this sweet girl as she starts a brand-new chapter and a life that is finally her own. Meet Duke Kaboom — a carefree little guy with a heart as soft as his fluffy coat. At 4 years old, this laid-back poodle mix has mastered the art of balancing fun and relaxation. Whether he’s stretched out in a sunny spot soaking up the rays, casually following you around the house, or “kabooming” his whole body with excitement at the sound of food, Duke brings an easygoing kind of joy wherever he goes. Duke is the kind of dog who fits beautifully into everyday life. He’s social and friendly with everyone he meets — dogs, cats, kids, and strangers alike — but he’s also wonderfully independent. He enjoys being near his people without demanding constant attention, making him the perfect companion for someone who wants a loyal buddy without a velcro dog attached to their hip. His foster especially adores his gentle, noninvasive snuggles and the way his ears flap in the breeze when he’s out and about. This handsome boy already has all the basics down. Duke is housebroken, crate trained, non-destructive, and easy to walk on leash. He’s calm around other dogs on walks, answers to his name, and settles into home life with ease. He currently lives successfully with young children, another dog, and busy household activity, taking it all in stride with his happy-go-lucky attitude. Duke does have IVDD, a common spinal condition that requires some simple lifestyle management to keep him feeling his best. Right now, he’s doing great by avoiding jumping on and off furniture, and his foster family has helped him adapt wonderfully. His condition doesn’t stop him from enjoying life — he still loves lounging, exploring, snacking, and being your cheerful sidekick. 6 y.o., 20 pound, housetrained neutered Miniature Poodle/Pomeranian Mix Carl is a wonderful little fellow who makes a great companion once you earn his trust. Carl often lies with his foster grandpa while he watches TV. With people he is comfortable with, Carl shows he is a friendly, affectionate, playful dog who (naturally) loves his treats, those made specifically for dogs or broccoli, carrots or cauliflower. Our vet estimates that Carl is approximately 6 years old. We know virtually nothing about Carl’s past. He was picked up as a stray & taken to the local animal control as a scared boy who did not want to be touched. It took days for him to decompress in a foster home. Carl likes to chase thrown balls. He doesn’t often return them. He chases, picks them up, turns & waits for you to throw another. He also likes to chew on sticks. Carl’s anxiety is with unknown humans encountered outside his yard, not dogs. Carl gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home & has shown interest in other dogs he has met. Carl has quickly become friends with a few people who met him at his foster home & strictly followed our meeting protocol. Once he gets to know & trust you, you remain his friend, even after you leave him at the vet for a procedure. Carl does love his foster grandpa. While Carl is quite fond of sitting or lying on his foster grandpa on the couch, he needs & loves to run and play. A small dog secure fenced yard is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for Carl. Carl likes to spend significant time outside every day. Carl likes car rides & to explore on a leash walk. Carl will often bark at strangers, but calms down when not forced to interact. When he senses no danger, he will willingly walk with strangers with or without dogs. In the company of people he does not know, Carl naturally seeks reassurance from his foster grandpa. Do not expect Carl to go out in the rain, without you attached to his leash. Carl needs an active & patient adopter without children with whom he can thrive. While prospective adopters’ children & Carl may form a mutual admiration society, it’s too much to expect their friends to understand just how different Carl’s fear makes his behavior. Carl’s trust in his foster grandpa has since achieved a level where his foster grandpa now shaves & cuts Carl’s coarse curls over a span of several days. Prior to that, Carl had to be sedated, completely knocked out to be groomed every 2 months. For nail trims, his foster grandpa puts a cloth muzzle on Carl & holds him while the vet tech snips as Carl does his best to get away. If you are considering adding Carl to your family, please think about the unusual consequences of Carl’s fear of strangers. You are going to have to have a minimal stress strategy for grooming. You will be responsible for dealing successfully with such issues, not your vet, your groomer or anyone else. Carl is housetrained, neutered & microchipped as well as up to date on his vaccinations & monthly heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Half of Carl’s $400 adoption fee has been sponsored.
