Story
**Meet Ted!** Ted is a 3-year-old, 14-pound little guy who has been quietly learning that the world isn't quite as scary as he once thought. Like many breeder-release dogs, Ted didn't have much experience with normal family life before coming into rescue. Because of that, he is still a very fearful dog who needs a patient adopter willing to let him move at his own pace. Ted is not looking for a busy household or lots of new adventures. His perfect home is a calm, quiet one with a secure fenced yard, no children, and a female adopter who understands that trust is earned slowly. The good news? Once Ted trusts you, his sweet personality shines through. His foster mom has watched him transform from a dog who wanted to disappear into one who happily snuggles on the couch, seeks out affection, and enjoys spending time with the people he knows. He has learned to trust his foster mom and her adult daughter when she visits, and he absolutely loves to curl up with the family's dog. Ted is playful with other dogs and would likely benefit from a confident canine companion who can help show him that life is good. While another dog is not required, it would be a wonderful bonus for Ted. One of Ted's most endearing qualities is his gentle nature. He is especially sweet and respectful with the senior citizens who visit the home and enjoys quietly being part of their company. Ted does best when his world stays small and predictable. He isn't the type of dog who will thrive going everywhere with his family or meeting lots of new people. Instead, he's looking for someone who will appreciate the quiet victories: a tail wag, a cuddle on the couch, choosing to stay close instead of hiding, and the trust that grows a little more each day. Potty training is still a work in progress, and Ted currently wears a belly band while he continues learning. Ted may never be the life of the party, but for the right person, he will be a deeply rewarding companion. His foster mom adores him, and we know there is someone out there who will love him just as much. If you believe the best relationships are built on patience, understanding, and celebrating the little things, Ted may be the perfect match for you. All Heart of America Humane Society dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Adoption fee is $250. Location: Wayside Waifs CampusMy Friends at Wayside say: -I’m a shy dog and need someone willing to be patient with me.-I was in a foster home, so I was able to work on my housetraining. My foster said I was doing well!-My foster said I do a good job of sleeping through the night.-Once I warm up to you, I like to be petted. My home needs are: -I need a home without other dogs - I prefer having your attention all to myself!-A fenced yard is a must for me! I do not know how to walk on a leash, so I need a secure area to go out for potty breaks.-I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises. -For my safety, I need to go home on an anti-slip collar called a martingale collar. For your convenience, we sell them in our retail store, Whiskers and Wags. This dog is from a puppy mill situation. They will likely need time to adjust to home life. They have lived with many other dogs but have not experienced socialization with people and things like walking on a leash and doorways are challenging for many of them. Dogs from puppy mills can be difficult to housetrain, and adopters should be willing to be patient during this process. Crate training can be very helpful and also give the dog a safe place to call their own. It is also important to let them go at their own pace with building a relationship with their new family and limiting lots of commotion and visitors in the beginning is wise. They have not experienced life outside of the puppy mill, so things could be overwhelming for them at first. Patience and positive interactions are crucial. Aversive methods of training should be avoided. Puppy mill dogs are almost always treat motivated, so using that to build trust and teach new things is the way to go! Adopting a puppy mill dog can be extremely rewarding and the extra time needed to allow them to learn about life and love will be paid back in time!Hi there, I’m Calvin…I’m a 5-year-old Miniature Poodle with a quiet heart and a soft soul. Coming from a puppy mill, the big wide world is still pretty new to me, so I’m working on building up my confidence every single day. Because I have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to life experience, I’m looking for a special, patient human who will go at my pace and help me feel safe.Since I’m still learning the ropes, I do have a couple of important must-haves for my fu

I am a sweet, shy girl who is just learning about life `on the outside`. I can be fearful of new things and new experiences. I want to be near people and I love other dogs. I will need a patient adopter who can help me learn about the world. With a little time and patience, I`m sure to make a lovely friend!I have made a lot of progress on walking on a leash. Some of my friends helped me learn to do it and we now go for walks. I love to go on long, sniffy walks. Are you looking a walking buddy? I would love to walk with you. Here at the shelter, I really like other dogs! I like to follow them around and cuddle. I love to chase them around the yard. I would do well with other calmer, social dogs. What do you think? Am I the girl for you? I would love to meet you. Will you stop by soon?Love, Paisley
