Story
We are currently on a cross country transport that started from where we are located in Southen California to the east coast and decided to bring Sugar with us in hopes she finds a home along the way with a good family. If she speaks to your heart and you would love the opportunity to welcome her into your home reach out to us. It doesn't matter what state you are in we will come all the way to your home ♥️ Sugar is a Shih Tzu / Poodle mix who weighs 11.2 lbs and is fully grown at a healthy, balanced weight. She has the soft, straight-to-wavy Shih Tzu-style coat that will continue to grow out beautifully, and she is hypoallergenic. She was born on 1/5/23 💞 She is one of those dogs whose presence you feel the moment she’s near — gentle, observant, and quietly affectionate. Sugar is wonderful with other dogs, but she doesn’t rely on them for happiness. She is most fulfilled when she knows she belongs to her person. She enjoys companionship of all kinds and would do fine with another calm dog, but her heart truly lights up when she is the center of her human’s world. Her connection runs deep, and once that bond is formed, it is unwavering. She has lovely house manners and a naturally respectful demeanor in the home. Sugar is crate trained and, when it’s time for bed, will walk right into her crate on her own and sleep peacefully through the night. If given the choice, though, she would happily curl up with her person — laying her head on your chest, resting a paw in your hand, and quietly soaking in the closeness. She is incredibly intuitive and intelligent, often responding to your voice and emotions in ways that feel more like a conversation than training. Sugar is shy when first meeting new people and takes a little time to feel safe. She watches, listens, and moves at her own thoughtful pace. But once she trusts you, she is deeply loyal and devoted. When Sugar chooses you, she chooses you for life. She came to us after her family was forced to move into an apartment that did not allow pets. They loved her very much, but time and housing limitations made it impossible for them to keep her. Losing her family was understandably confusing and emotional for Sugar, and she was anxious when she first arrived. With patience, consistency, and love, she settled in and learned that she was safe again. Because of this, we are seeking a kind, gentle, and emotionally aware adopter — someone who understands that love and security matter deeply to a dog like Sugar. In return, she will love with her whole heart for the rest of her life. Sugar is house trained and goes outside to use the restroom every 3–4 hours as needed. She thrives on routine and does best when she knows what to expect from her day. She also understands puppy pads if that’s a preferred option in her next home. She is not a high-energy dog and naturally mirrors the energy of her person. A calmer, more low-key home would suit her beautifully, with occasional outings to keep her world full and enriched. She loves car rides and is always happy to be included in life’s little adventures. Leash walking is something she is still growing into, as it wasn’t used much before coming to us, but as her confidence continues to build, so will her enjoyment of walks. She is not a barker, but she will gently alert you if something unfamiliar catches her attention. Sugar does wonderfully with grooming. While we would have loved to preserve her coat, it had to be taken down due to matting that couldn’t be brushed out. It will grow back soft and beautiful in time — and until then, she looks especially adorable in sweaters and pajamas, which she wears very well 🙃 She is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, has had a dental cleaning and polish, and received a thorough exam with our vet, who has fully cleared her to find a home all her own. Her adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/sugar which helps cover her veterinary care, dental, months of care while with us, grooming, and training since being in our rescue ♥️ Sugar isn’t looking for just any home — she’s looking for her person. Someone who moves gently through life, who understands that trust is built through patience, consistency, and love. If you’re the kind of person who values quiet moments, shared routines, soft companionship, and a dog who truly sees you, Sugar will be your greatest gift. Once she feels safe in your heart, she will love you with a depth and devotion that never wavers. She will be your constant, your comfort, and your little shadow — choosing you every single day for the rest of her life.

Story
Peanut is a 2-year-old female that weighs 19.20 lbs – Her brother Butter was adopted and living his best life already 😊 These fantastic furbabies were found running in and out of traffic on a busy road when they were seen by a good Samaritan. It took over an hour, and lots of dodging traffic to finally encourage these 2 into their vehicle. We do not know how they were not run over, but we are so glad they gave in to going to safety! With that being said, we know they do enjoy car rides and loading up in the vehicle! While we do not know what their exact breeds are, they do not shed, therefore we do believe they can be considered hypoallergenic. Based on looks – We think they could be a mix of schnauzer, poodle, Lhasa apso, shih tzu and Tibetan Terrier, but who knows?! They are cute for sure! Peanut and Butter are not bonded, but they do get along wonderfully. They are fostered with other doggies, and they get along with all the dogs they meet, big and small, young and old. They would do great with other dogs in the home or with no dogs in the home. While they have not actively been introduced to cats recently, we believe based on their personalities they would do great with cats. They have no aggressive behaviors and are really just some of the most easy-going doggies. Peanut and Butter are more relaxed dogs – they enjoy lounging around the backyard and around the patio. Peanut is a little shyer than Butter, she does take a little bit of time to come around. The foster believes both would do great with children, but Peanut would be best with older, more well-behaved children who understand patience and kindness with a dog. Butter is more outgoing and would be better with all age children. They are crate trained and house trained. Both dogs would do best in a home that is more low key to medium active as they are not very hyperactive dogs and just like to hang out. They would do great with walks around the neighborhood or just a backyard to hang out in. Even car rides around just to get out of the house and see the views 😊 Peanut and Butter are wonderful furbabies who deserve a family or families that will love them and not let them run the streets and dodge cars that they don’t understand will end their lives. Peanut is spayed, heart worm negative, current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention, current on dewormer, current on age-appropriate vaccinations (parvo/distemper, bordatella and rabies vaccine) and microchipped. She will receive clean bill of health from a veterinarian prior to adoption. Story
Super duper small breed alerts!! Rough and tough and…. Ha who are we kidding. These babies are everything but that. Whitney – 1 year old – female – 5.6 lbs – Fully grown – Darker color Glimmer – 1 year old – female – 5.0 lbs – Fully grown – All white Tofu – 10 weeks old – female – 4.0 lbs – Glimmers puppy – All white Mist – 10 weeks old – male – 4.5 lbs – Glimmers Puppy – All white These furry babies came from a hoarding situation where they were not well taken care of. Thanks to a foster of ours, we were able to help these 4 babies out of that situation, into a temporary, loving foster home. Are they all good with other dogs? YES! They came from a house with 20+ dogs and they get along great with the current foster’s dogs’ Are they good with cats? Yes! Cats are all bigger than they are. Kids? The puppies would be wonderful with children. The adults are a bit shy at first but come around and are very sweet Do they bark? Only when they’re super playful or see dogs/cats they don’t know yet. They do not bark at just the air, like some are known for House trained? Mist and Tofu are not house trained. Glimmer and Whitney are working on crate training. Will do great with one-on-one time and patience. They all love being held, it makes them feel safe. Mist and Tofu love playing with toys and are quite outgoing. All four have a habit of taking blankets from the others dog’s crates and trying to hoard them for themselves. Be aware of the blanket thieves! Whitney and Glimmers ideal home would be one that is patient, kind and has another dog for them to help them gain confidence. If there are no other dogs in the home, someone that is home and willing to socialize with them properly to ensure they continue to thrive and come out of their shells. They would do great with gentle, older children. Tofu and Mist are only puppies and would thrive in a home that is a bit more active. These puppies may be small, but they are mighty. They love to play with their toys and run around. They are not shy babies. We don’t believe these pups will get over 10 lbs, especially since mom is only 5 lbs! Adoption Fee Includes: Whitney/Glimmer – Spayed, current on annual vaccinations (Bordatella, rabies, parvo/distemper), heart worm negative, current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention, dewormed, microchipped and includes transport cost from Texas to the East Coast. Tofu/Mist – Current on Bordatella, 2 sets of parvo/distemper vaccinations, current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention, dewormed, microchipped and includes transport cost from Texas to the East Coast. The adoption fee listed INCLUDES transport from Texas to the location where this animal is posted in.
