Lady is a sweet Miniature Schnauzer/Miniature Poodle Mix who weighs 11 pounds. She loves to play with other dogs but prefers smaller play groups as fewer dogs means fewer people. She is a very playful girl but does choose her friends. She would do best with a similarly sized dog in the home, a dog who is confident but stays out of her personal space is probably a good match. Either way, she does need a fenced yard as walking on leash is very scary so she will need more time for that to be comfortable. Her fence needs to be at least 5 feet high. Lady needs an adult only home. She is a skittish girl who can run when she is startled or scared. She can also try and run out a door so extra care will be needed. There is very helpful information in the adoption folder on how to keep fearful dogs safe in a home. Little things like leashing her when someone is coming to the front door or using a baby gate or x-pen to create an extra barrier to the door is very helpful. Her ideal home will be more quiet, predictable and patient. She loves to sit by familiar people which is a very hopeful sign for this sweetie. She is waiting for her family and we know she is well worth your efforts to assimilate her into your family. She is a special girl. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
