Story
🍯 Ambrosia – 5-Year-Old Miniature Schnauzer 📍 Located in Decatur, IL Applications at leiashope.org Adoption fee: $325 Meet Ambrosia, a sweet and gentle Miniature Schnauzer who is blossoming more each day. After spending her first five years in a puppy mill, she’s finally learning what it means to be loved and cared for. Ambrosia recently had a much-needed dental—most of her teeth couldn’t be saved, but now that those painful, unhealthy ones are gone, she’s feeling so much better! She’s happily eating her soft food and taking her medication like a champ. Her foster mom says Ambrosia is becoming more active inside and out. She’s found a favorite dog bed, enjoys relaxing in the dog pen for quiet time, and proudly carries around her favorite soft toy—squeaking it for attention and showing off her playful side! She’s also becoming less tense when picked up and has started rolling over for belly rubs, soaking up the love she’s missed for so long. Ambrosia requires a secure physical fenced yard and a canine companion in her adoptive home to help guide her as she continues to learn what home life means. She is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines, on monthly flea and heartworm prevention, and had a full dental. Leia’s Hope is a volunteer-run rescue—please allow **7–10 business days** for application processing. Meet and greets are by approved application only, held at the dog’s location, and all family members (including dogs) must attend. We do not transport or allow our dogs to fly cargo.

Story
Zoey is a 12-year-old miniature schnauzer mix weighing 21 lbs. This lovely senior girl does have a grade 4/6 heart murmur, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying life’s little pleasures. Zoey is low energy and perfectly content with short strolls, a little time in the yard, or a cozy car ride. She’s house-trained (goes potty outside) and also paper trained, making her easy to manage. She doesn’t use a crate in her foster home. She gets along well with other dogs and is curious but respectful with cats. While she hasn’t been around kids in our care, her gentle nature suggests she could adjust to a calm, patient household. Zoey is described as friendly, adaptable, happy, and playful—though she does take a little time to warm up. Once she feels safe, she’ll happily follow you around, ask for treats, and even get a little playful. She loves sleeping in bed with her foster mom and will reward patience with loyal companionship. Zoey would thrive in a home where her people are around more often, but she also does well being left alone if she has other dogs for company. If you’re looking for a sweet, devoted friend to share your days with, Zoey would love to be your little shadow. Her adoption fee is sponsored. There is a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. Story
Penelope is a 1-year-old, 11.5-pound Miniature Schnauzer with a big personality and an even bigger love for her people. She is house trained and happily goes outside, and while she tolerates the crate, she would much rather be near her humans soaking up attention. Penelope is truly a lapdog at heart and wants nothing more than to sit with you, be close to you, and follow you around like a little shadow. This sweet girl is friendly, outgoing, and playful with the people she knows. She is excited to greet both men and women who visit her home and enjoys showing off her affectionate side. On walks, she may bark at dogs, squirrels, or other exciting distractions, but her daily 20–30 minute walks help burn off energy, and she also enjoys playing with toys, especially tiny squeaky ones. Penelope is a smart cookie who already knows several commands including sit, no, up, down, and c’mon. She can be a little stubborn at times, but add a treat and suddenly she remembers exactly what you’re asking. She is very treat motivated and social, which makes her a great candidate to continue learning new things with positive reinforcement. She is a loving, loyal companion who wants to be someone’s constant sidekick. With her sweet nature, intelligence, and desire to be close to her person, she is ready to settle into a home where she can be adored as much as she adores in return. Her minimum adoption fee is $400 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
