Story
Brownie is a delightful one-year-old female looking for her forever home! Brownie is an intelligent pup who has already mastered the Sit command and is always eager to learn more. She absolutely adores treats, making training sessions a breeze. Tennis balls are one of her favorite things and she does bring them back, but puts them down a ways past you...she just is excited to play. This energetic furball is full of love and always excited to shower her humans with affection. Brownie enjoys all the attention she can get from humans, but might be picky about her doggy friends. With her boundless energy, she would make an excellent walking and potentially even running partner for an active owner. Story
Melon's estimated DOB is 07/19/2021 and he's a brindle Boxer. He came to the Haven of the Ozarks with another dog by the name of Cantaloupe. They are two very shy, reserved pups that were found roaming a neighborhood. We later found out that their owner had passed away and that's why they were out roaming, probably in search of food and water. But lucky for them they picked the perfect neighborhood to seek out their basic needs because once everyone noticed them, they all came together and began putting out food, water and trying to gain their trust. This process took about two months because these two caught on to what people were trying to do and would not go into traps, they had set for them so they could get them to us so we could help these sweet pups try and understand that not all people are bad and that we just wanted to help. We at the Haven of the Ozarks believe that with a lot of time, basic training and patience that these two sweeties can grow to trust someone and be able to eventually live the happy healthy life's they deserve. We think that it would need to be someone that is willing to come out for a few days and spend time with them in their kennel and shower them with treats and love to gain trust before they went home just to make the transition from our shelter to a home easier on them. We've recently brought both pups into the office to hang out and Melon warms up much more quickly than his sister. All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647....All pets have lifetime sanctuary at Haven of the Ozarks. If they cannot remain with their adopter, they must be returned to the Haven.Adoption fees are as follows: Puppies under the age of 6 months - $150Dogs weighing 30 pounds and less - $200Dogs over 6 months old- $90Cats under the age of 6 months old - $75Cats over the age of 6 months old - $65Special adoption fees may apply to some animals.

Story
Riley is a 1 - 2 yr old female Mountain Cur mix. She has a high energy level, so she would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. She can be shy initially, but warms up quickly to new people. She is loose and wiggly when greeting, and loves to sit new to her person for snuggles and kisses. Riley does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! She is food motivated and knows the command sit. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Story
Hi, I'm Lilo. My story is terrible. But here goes. My parents up and moved, and left me to die. I was alone in that nasty house. For how long, I don't know. Long enough for bugs to start creeping in. Thank goodness someone heard me crying. When I was finally rescued, the humans said I was skin and bones and very upset. I'm still angry at my parents. How could they do that to me? Did they not love me enough to take me with them? Or at least try to find someone to care for me? I just don't understand. I constantly jump in my kennel just to keep the bad memories away. I try to fight the other dogs through their kennels because I'm so angry. The humans here tell me that after I have been fixed, it will help with my emotions. I hope so. I don't want to lose all hope that there are good parents out there. So here's my hope. I hope that someone with a lot of patience, caring, and love comes to save me from myself. I need to have my hope restored. Will you be the one that can do that?
