This seven- to eight-year-old Black Mouth Cur/Shepherd mix was owner-surrendered at Animal Control and left behind just as his golden years were upon him. What kind of owner would ever do such a thing? He quickly became urgent, and luckily we were able to step in and save him in April of 2025, just in time. When he arrived, he was skin and bones—emaciated and exhausted—but with love and care, he’s been gaining weight and blossoming. Now, he’s finally ready for a forever family who will love him the way he’s always deserved. Tank is the definition of a gentle soul. He’s dog-friendly with all sizes, kid-friendly, and simply wants to be near his people. He spends most of his days lounging around happily, but every now and then he’ll surprise you with a playful burst of energy, especially when he gets to romp with his doggy friends. He’s crate-trained, housebroken, and such an easy, loving companion. Like many seniors, Tank has a few quirks. He’s terrified of storms and will need comfort and reassurance during them—he’d much prefer snuggling up close to his person when thunder rolls. He’s also a bit of an escape artist with no street smarts, so a secure fenced yard is a must. Don’t let his calm demeanor fool you—he’s strong, so he’ll do best with someone steady on their feet. Despite the hard times he’s lived through, Tank is still so full of love and hope.
