Story
Meet Cadbury, the shepherd husky mix. Cadbury arrived at the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know much about his life before the Shelter. Although a little shy with new people, Cadbury warms up and is a soft, sweet boy with time and patience. Cadbury has met some dogs at the Shelter and may enjoy the company of some more than others. Any resident dogs are recommended to meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Cadbury went on a little vacation from the Shelter with a volunteer who reports: `I took Cadbury out last week for a few hours for a quiet walk in our neighborhood and a nap at my house. He was comfortable with both me and my husband. Easy. He leans in for pets. And he went into a deep sleep when I took him home. He was very good on the walk. Easy and not pulling. Didn’t look at squirrels or cats. I’ve seen him with other volunteers and he comes in close for hugs and pets.`Cadbury`s adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation`s Leave No One Behind fund- a fund that draws adopter`s eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Rainbow, the Anatolian mix! He is friendly and loves being pet! He is also eager to interact and play with other dogs. He has even spent time in a foster home and loved to play with five other dogs! A home with another dog would likely enrich Rainbow’s day to day with play. A volunteer who has taken Rainbow on day trips reports that during time in her house, he would always pottys outside.. so he has a good basis for being house trained! Rainbow has gone on outings to the beach and hikes and LOVES IT! He walks nicely on leash, is curious, and up to join in on any and all adventures!Rainbow has quite a fan base here at the Shelter. Here are his reviews from volunteers:`For me, the sweetest thing about Rainbow is he really likes to lean into physical contact against a leg when being petted.` -Jed`When it comes to playtime in the enrichment yard, he lightens up my heart!` -Jutta`I love the way he unabashedly leans into you like he has known you his whole life. So goofy and eager to please.` -Madeleine`Setting aside his puppy energy, he is calm, even-keeled, and good natured.` -Dave`I love his seemingly endless energy for toys and balls. Even with all of htat, he has a loving tender side and is always down for a good cuddle.` -RobRainbow`s adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous Good Samaritan!
