Story
Meet Delilah!A sweet 90lb, 9-year-old, Newfoundland with the softest eyes, the sweetest heart, and a story that will melt anyone who meets her. She was found in a snowbank on the side of the road, unable to stand on her own, cold, exhausted, and in very rough condition. But even then, her gentle spirit shone through. We brought her to the shelter, warmed her up, cleaned her, and gave her the soft, cozy place she had clearly been longing for.At her age, Delilah is a calm, tender soul who wants nothing more than a warm bed, a quiet home, and someone who will love her through the rest of her golden years. She does have arthritis and will continue to need regular pain management, and because her joints can be stiff, she sometimes needs a little help getting up. We are searching for someone special—an adopter or even a foster— who is mostly home and able to provide steady companionship throughout the day. Delilah doesn’t mind other dogs, but she would thrive best in a household without active or high-energy pups. A home with other senior or mellow dogs would be the perfect match for her peaceful nature. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!

Story
We aren’t really sure whose idea it was to mix a Great Pyrenees with a poodle… but here we are. Meet Swiffer! Swiffer is a floofy and goofy guy who is happy as a clam but lacks in the brain cell department. Maybe it’s the stubborn aloofness of a Pyrenees, but while Swiffer is all around a sweet, friendly dog, he doesn’t pick up on everything right away 😂 He’s what we refer to LOVINGLY as a big dumb dog (BDD). We aren’t sure where his personality as an adult will land as far as which breed he will most take after, which is unfortunately the biggest hurdle with most doodles. What we DO know is he is going to make someone very happy. He’s a good companion and will keep you entertained. He loves people and other dogs. Swiffer will of course have extensive grooming needs, so you will need to be ready to brush. A lot. He is currently a year old and 80lbs. He is fully vetted and ready for a home! Story
I need to rehome our 2-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, Maple. She’s a large, gentle, friendly girl and wonderful with kids of all ages. We’re are rehoming due to our schedule and want her to have the time and attention she deserves and she is starting to show signs that she would like to be the only dog. Never anything aggressive, she just looks sad. Maple is house trained and does not need to be crated, but will go into a crate if her new family prefers. She knows basic commands like sit and down, walks well on a leash, and takes treats gently. She doesn’t chew many toys but will enjoy one occasionally. She has no medical concerns and is up to date on all vaccines, including rabies, bordetella, and flu. She’s good with other dogs but would really thrive as the only dog. Maple is a loving, easygoing companion who deserves a home where she can continue to thrive. This is truly heartbreaking but it is best for her. Thank you.

Story
Meet Maple! She’s a loving, goofy, four year old girl. Maple loves to snuggle, she is VERY food motivated, is so smart and loves practicing and learning tricks/skills. She’s a morning girl, loves to go on walks, but can also chill around the house and have a lazy weekend. Maple is very loyal, she is ALL about her human so we believe she would thrive in a home where she can be the baby of the house, this means a home where she is the only dog and ideally there are no small children (under 5 or so). Maple is NOT aggressive but she was not properly socialized as a puppy so unfortunately the dynamic between Maple and our other dog has been challenging and we have to think of what's best for them both. Please read Maple's FULL bio in the link below so you can fully understand her needs and decide if she would be a good fit for you. Link to Maple's full bio.
