Story
Meet Dually!!! Dually is believed to be a Mastiff mix about 7 yrs old. Dually has been homeless her whole life. She’s been in rescue since 2016. Really all she needs is a stable secure home with a confident experienced owner with common sense. She is a homebody and would perfectly happy with just her people. She does not do well with cats and is best as an only dog. She minds her own around new dogs once she is comfortable and knows she is safe. But a home of her own is preferred. She loves training and learning commands. Loves car rides and walks. Drive through for pup cups are always fun. Dually lacks confidence and can be unsure at times. Allow her space she needs and build that bond with her and she is that loyal dog everyone dreams of having. An adult home would be best for her. Well mannered teens are ok. Respect, discipline, routine, structure, and common sense Helps dually feel safe and at home. She truly is not difficult and once comfortable she’s absolutely the best friend anyone could want. Dually has been raised with kids as young as 7 years old. Dually is a breed of dog that is not for the weak minded, or non committed individual. She is guarded but disciplined. She is calm and a bit lazy but truly is up to whatever her person wants to do. She makes the best side kick buddy. She needs a strong owner both physically and mentally confident to guide her. She has been well socialized since birth but always lacked confidence. Dually is currently at the sanctuary with Cindy and her children both autistic but high functioning. Cindy trusts Dually 100% with her kids however her children have grown up around dogs and know how to behave, respect, and handle dogs like Dually daily since age 5. Dually has done well with other dogs properly introduced. it takes time and patience. Trust is everything and she is currently 1 of 32 plus in her group who coexist without any issues. She was at one point 1 of 60 free roaming. She prefers her space and loves her crate/cave. Loves her chew toys and comfy dog bed. Dually walks well on leash, off leash trained, her breed makes her very protective of her people, pack and perimeter but obeys well and will not act on it. Dually is crate trained and housebroken. Dually cannot be adopted out within city limits of Fort Wayne/Allen county or Huntington/Huntington county unless its a confident secure home with a full fence and cautions keeping her safe and thriving. These areas are not ok with her breed. A secured fence in yard is preferred 4 ft and up, no tie out, no chain, no garage living. No basement. She needs to by her people relaxed in a big comfy dog bed. Preferred a home with no other pets. Adoption fee partially sponsored. And she is to be an indoor pet and part of the family. NOT A GARAGE OR SHOP DOG unless its with her owner. Dually is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona rabies, de-wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, spayed, and current on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention. Updated: 3/25/2023 www.animalhousesanctuary.org We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are a required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets.

Story
Meet Opie!! Meet Opie! He was an owner who surrendered to a local shelter and needed rescue only because the stress of the shelter got to him. Opie is 4 yrs-old GS Malinois Dutch shepherd mix. Sadly he's lived a very confined neglected isolated sheltered life. In other words, he had lazy 💩 owners. As of 11/4, Opie is a sweet, gentle giant but reserved and timid. We have learned that allowing him to approach you on his time is best. 12/22 He loves his people once his trust is gained. Which takes 0 time and effort on the human part. 2/10 Everyone he has meets he has done awesome with. He is willing to try but does needs encouragement. He strives for guidance and needs consistency, routine, and simple daily exercise as well as structured discipline. He is a simple dog always wanting to please. But his confidence cannot be rushed instead when meeting any new folks he needs people to ignore him as if he's not present, do not approach, touch, talk to him or make eye contact and this alone makes meeting anyone easy and possible. 2/17 Opie thrives with companionship and desires physical and verbal acknowledgment from his people. He wants to belong and be part of his people every day life. No reactivity toward cats, or dogs, nor does he have any resource-guarding behaviors. He however is a follower and he needs constant guidance. Opie is good on a leash, still needs work but it's manageable. Very food and praise/affection motivated. 1/22 Opie is currently ongoing heartworm treatment and doing well. Opie is a dog that requires more than basic dog knowledge. He needs leadership and guidance and someone confident and in control at all times. To be continued: Opie is house and crate trained, neuteted, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona, 3-year rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Opie like every AHS dog comes with our lifetime support. Updated: 2/26/2023 We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Story
We rescued Doyle from our local shelter as we suspected an obstruction. He received surgery, in which several things were found, including foam and screws. He has recovered nicely from the procedure and has gained over 20lbs! He has had no interested in eating anything other than food since his surgery. We suspect he was starved, and resorted to eating whatever he could find at the time. Doyle is delightful, friendly and low energy. He has no clue that he doesn't fit in your lap, and wants nothing more than to flop his body all over you in lovings! If you have kids, we would recommend children over the age of 10, as he is a big boy!
