Story
Hi, I'm Issie, and I'm looking for a patient adopter with another dog and a securely fenced-in yard. I am a 4.5-year-old, 13-pound, long-haired chihuahua/papillon mix who is already neutered. I have gorgeous, silky, black, and white fur and a cute ear that sticks up. Animal Control trapped me after being on the run for a while, so I am still getting used to people and living in the house like an average dog. That's why it is a requirement for me to live with another friendly dog (or two!) who can show me the ropes. I get along great with the dogs in my current foster home. I have decided to become the oldest dog's shadow, and I follow her around, sleep next to her, and look at her during scary situations to see what I should do. I am not aggressive at all and have a very submissive temperament. I am fine with cats too! They were in my last foster home, and I was uninterested in them. Young kids would probably be too much for me right now. I take Prozac for my anxiety, and it is helping me come out of my shell a lot. Because I am a scaredy-cat, I am a flight risk, and I must always have a leash attached to me. This leash helps you catch me to take me outside--if I weren't wearing it, you would be running circles around your house trying to get me, which wouldn't be fun for either of us! Once you have the leash, I walk pretty well alongside another dog. It is a requirement for me to have a fenced-in yard because I love to be outside. The fence must be very secure and not something I can dig or slip out of. It would actually be better for me if your yard were smaller with fewer things to hide behind or under. I am potty trained and can hold it until we go outside, but sometimes I might have an accident if I get scared by a loud noise. I have made huge strides in my foster home, and I really want to find that forever home to continue making progress. Even though I am afraid, I am trying. You can tell that I want to be loved on, I am still just unsure. It helps that I LOVE cheese, turkey, peanut butter, and pretty much all foods. I've actually started to learn the spots where my foster parents eat, and I will sit there and wait for them to give me something! I am looking for someone to love me the way that I am right now, but who knows that I am getting better every week, and with time and patience, I can be a mostly normal dog. Whoever adopts Issie is going to be part of something very rewarding. It is the most beautiful thing to see an animal learn to trust, and helping Issie blossom will most likely be one of your proudest accomplishments in life.
