Meet Fred 🐾 Fred is an adorable adult Papillon mix who is getting a second chance at life. He came to us from a rural Illinois animal control after his owner sadly passed away. Fred had been living in a hoarding-type environment with countless other dogs, along with a dog in our care named Lucy - who may be his sister or possibly his daughter. Because of his past, Fred is still learning what it means to be a cherished family dog. He can be a little shy at first, but with patience, kindness, and a calm home, his sweet personality begins to shine through. Fred is dog-friendly and finds comfort around other pups. Fred could be adopted with Lucy or separately-though having another friendly dog in the home may help him continue to build confidence. If you’re the kind of person who understands that the best relationships take a little time and love, Fred may be the perfect little companion to grow with. 💛

Lucy is trying to learn that the world can be kind. Lucy is a small 12lb Papillon/Pomeranian mix, about 2–3 years old. When she came to us, her life had just been turned upside down. Her owner passed away… and Lucy was discovered living in a hoarding-type environment with many other dogs. Everything about the world is still new and overwhelming to her. Lucy is not aggressive at all - she is simply very shy and unsure. New people, new places, sudden movements…they can all feel scary. But even with all of that, Lucy keeps trying to be brave. She watches quietly. She follows the other dogs. She wants to trust - she just needs someone patient enough to show her how. Lucy does well with other dogs and having a calm canine friend may help her feel more secure. She may need future knee surgery for luxating patellas, but through everything she has been gentle and cooperative. Lucy will need: • A quiet home • A patient adopter • Someone who understands that trust takes time She may never be the dog who runs up to greet strangers. But for the person willing to move slowly, speak softly, and give her the time she deserves… Lucy will give something very special in return. His favorite place in the world is curled up in a cozy lap, happily soaking up affection from the people he trusts.This sweet boy has great house manners—he’s housebroken and settles down nicely in his crate for a good night’s sleep. Jujube also enjoys his walks and does very well on a leash, making strolls around the neighborhood a pleasant experience.Jujube can be a little shy when meeting new people and likes to take his time getting comfortable.
