Story
# Ace Hi, I'm Ace! 🐾 I'm a 7-month-old Papillon mix with a striking white coat dotted with black speckles — small enough to snuggle but full of puppy potential. I'm a gentle and smart boy who's still a bit shy, so I'll need patient adopters who understand I'm still growing into my big personality. At just under 11 pounds, I'm the perfect lap-sized companion for someone ready to invest in my training and socialization. My adoption fee is $500, and I promise to repay your kindness with loyalty as I mature. 💕 Come meet me and let's start our adventure together!

We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive to that area for a meet and greet. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications & FAQ about our adoption process can be found on our website. Opie came to rescue after he was surrendered to a local animal shelter. The shelter knew the best thing for him was to get him into a foster-based rescue to benefit his emotional health. Little dogs like Opie can deteriorate quickly in a shelter-type setting. This was definitely the best decision for Opie, and we are so thankful to the shelter for reaching out. Opie's foster mom sent us a very detailed report on the Big Personality that occupies his tiny 9-pound body! "If Opie wants to get to something he will eventually figure out how to get there. ⁃ Table surfer, a new trick he’s started in the last week. He wants what everyone else has, human or dog. Needs to be fed separately or he will eat their food. Do not leave food on a counter or ground unless you intend for him to eat it! ⁃ Escape artist, no dog gate has been able to beat him if his people are on the other side. ⁃ Needs a secure fence for sure, likes to “test” the gates and under fence areas every time he’s outside. We have rabbit fencing below our privacy fence which prevents him from going under, but need to stay vigilant with him outside. Never EVER leave him unattended outside. ⁃ Wants to be right by his people all the time. I think he would not do well left for long stretches of time, especially if he was the only dog. He becomes anxious pretty quickly and will probably start becoming destructive. He hasn’t been left alone much while he is with us other than his kennel at bedtime. When he is separated from people he is usually trying to beat the baby gate, using furniture and also literally scaling the baby gate. He could benefit with having other dogs in the house who wish to interact with him, my old man dog doesn’t “play” and Opie could do well with a playful pet friend. ⁃ 99% potty trained, still marking prior to neuter surgery. No marking or accidents in the house so far after surgery. He does not like to go in his house or kennel and will let you know when he needs to go outside. Keeps his area clean. ⁃ Plays “fetch and destroy” with his squeaky stuffed animal platypus but does not go for the rope toy despite my 10yo-old's best efforts. (probably for the best considering rope toys are a bowel obstruction danger!) ⁃ I think the oversized pet pouch hoodies were created for pups like Opie, who are most content being swaddled and carried around by their people. He loves to be held like a baby over the shoulder so he can see what’s going on and snugglein. ⁃ he will “sing” softly with you if you whistle with him ⁃ He barks when people come in to alert you but stops shortly and doesn’t bark much otherwise. " Opie is walking on a leash and continues to get better at it. He wears a very safe & secure harness when walking. 🏡 What Opie Needs in His Forever Home: 🐾 A family that will extend the time needed for Opie to get used to a new home. 3-3-3 Rule. 🐾 Opportunities for continued training. 🐾 Opie does well with other dogs and enjoys their company. We will pursue a home where he has a constant comanion. 🐾 A family willing to invite Opie to all the activities & include him. He will not do well being excluded. 🐶 If you are ready for a fun & attentive family member, you may be a good fit for Opie! Please follow the instructions listed to apply for adoption.

Story
Murphy came to us from a local animal control due to the sudden and terrible passing of his dad. He was so upset he was lashing out at everyone. He was a scared little guy. He wants everyone to think he is a big mean dog...when in all actuality he is a sweet loveable little guy with a huge need for attention. He is best being an only dog, but has been ok with several others here as long as they have enough room to give each other space. He doesn't mind cats. He will need someone that understands small dog scare tactics :) He was adopted several years ago and returned due to his adopter being unable to care for him any longer. He is now a toothless semi senior guy looking for his perfect retirement home. ##623222##
