🐾 Meet Rascal — A Loyal, Loving Terrier for the Right Home
Rascal may look like a big, rugged guy in photos, but he’s actually a 23-pound, round-and-stubby Patterdale Terrier mix with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. At 6 years old, he’s confident, affectionate, and deeply loyal to his people.
After coming to Melissa’s Second Chances from Leavenworth Animal Control, Rascal quickly showed just how special he is—especially to those he trusts.
💛 What Makes Rascal So Special
Rascal is incredibly loving and loyal. Once you’re his person, he wants to be right there with you—on the couch, in your lap, or curled up close. He’s affectionate, snuggly, and thrives on connection with his humans.
He’s also:
✔ Potty trained
✔ Crate trained
✔ Sleeps through the night
✔ Knows commands
✔ Polite and well-mannered in the home
🐶 Important Things to Know About Rascal
Rascal is a true terrier, and his instincts run strong. Patterdale Terriers were bred as working dogs to hunt foxes and other small animals, and Rascal is very much hardwired with that drive.
Because of this:
❌ Not good with cats or small animals (high prey drive)
❌ Not suitable for apartment living (barks and has high energy)
❌ Not ideal with other dogs and would do best as an only dog
❌ No young children — adults only, or possibly older teens
Rascal also resource guards items he finds valuable and can become nippy if those items are taken away, so he needs an experienced, dog-savvy home that understands boundaries and management.

Rascal will thrive with:
• An adult-only home
• A yard or active lifestyle
• Plenty of exercise and enrichment
• Someone who appreciates terrier traits
• A commitment to structure and consistency
Give him proper outlets and guidance, and Rascal is an incredibly devoted companion.
