Buckle up all, it’s time to meet Marsh! Have you ever thought you needed a bossy little dog to keep your yard free of squirrels, birds, cats, dogs, leaves, shadows and anything remotely resembling another living creature? Marsh, the old as dirt, nearly blind Jack Russell might be the perfect dog for you. Marsh is an 8-10 year old Parson Jack Russel mix weighing in at 12lbs.
Many dogs want to have dog friends to socialize with. A teammate to divide up the yard patrol with or a buddy to cuddle up next to. Marsh is not that dog. Marsh believes everywhere he goes should be dog free, and he’s willing to use his belly screams at a rather surprising volume and range, to clear the zip code of any canine intruder. Marsh is currently coexisting (much to his displeasure) with three other dogs in the home, but if it were up to him he would be the only dog.
He loves to play with his people and his favorite game is to remove all the toys from their basket and spread them liberally around the house. This way there’s always one nearby in case we finally take a hint to have some fun! Marsh is also a very nosy boy and wants to know what everyone is doing at all times and where everything is. Sometimes he takes this job a little too seriously and needs some nap time in his crate. He’s got a strong work drive and is not very good at self care. He knows he’s a good boy and doesn’t know how to rest on his own, but once in the crate he settles in for a good long nap. He wakes up refreshed and ready to terrorize everything on 4 legs, or blurry things that look like they might be on 4 legs.
Marsh only has one weakness. If you give him a nice ear rub, he plops right down and presents his belly and wiggles around scratching his back. It’s quite adorable, and he knows it. He uses it to get under your skin so that you convince yourself that he’s a sweet little innocent creature and his war cries of death seem like a minor problem. Marsh could be the perfect fit for anyone looking to appreciate the tough, spicy little guy he is on the outside and sweet loving dog he is at heart. Although he sounds like a menace, we have seen the goofy and sweet old man he is when his boundaries and needs are respected.
Marsh would absolutely THRIVE in a home with a yard where he doesn’t have to be met with the hoards of dogs on the street as he is currently in Manhattan. He would also excel in nose work and barn hunt, if his future owner wants to get him into dog sports. He lives to run alongside his owner on a bike or play tug/fetch.
During his time with us, Marsh has been in a home with women, men and children. He has done lovely with all of them. His main issue is his hatred for other dogs and if that isn’t in his daily life he is such a joy to be around.
Waggytail will cover up to 3 sessions with Marsh's current trainer with his adopter.
Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Heartworm negative, and microchipped. Received neuter & dental with us.
To apply for Marshmallow, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the animal is on our website, they are still available.
Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.
