Story
Hi, I'm Luna! Since Luna means moon, it's only fitting that I'm a little mysterious at first-but stick around, and you'll see there's a whole lot of sparkle hiding behind the clouds. I'm a 3-year-old Rat Terrier with a playful side, a smart mind, and a few party tricks up my sleeve. I know sit, shake, and roll over, which basically makes me an overachiever in a very cute package. I enjoy treats, games, and a good scratch session, and once I start feeling comfortable, my personality shines brighter than a full moon. New people and new situations can make me a little cautious, so I appreciate patience while I get my bearings. Think of me as a lunar eclipse: worth waiting for and pretty unforgettable when you see the real thing. If you're looking for a fun, clever companion who will blossom with kindness and consistency, I'd love to be the Luna in your orbit!*Qualifies for Pets for Patriots programPlease email Adoptions@saltlakecounty.gov with questions Primary Color: White Secondary Color: Black Weight: 23 Age: 3yrs 0mths 3wks

He loves being around people, enjoys interaction, and carries himself with the confident, entertaining energy Terrier lovers know and adore. He has matured beautifully into a lively companion who still enjoys playtime and activity while also loving affection and companionship from his humans. Penguin thrives when he feels included and part of the action. As a Jack Russell Terrier / Rat Terrier mix, Penguin may show traits such as intelligence, curiosity, alertness, and playful energy. Both breeds are known for being highly engaging, clever little dogs who enjoy staying mentally and physically active. Penguin would thrive in a home that can provide: Daily walks and playtime Mental stimulation and engagement Structure and consistency Companionship and inclusion as part of the family He would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a social, entertaining, and affectionate dog with lots of personality. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from very different backgrounds. Some may have previously lived in homes, while others may have come from the streets, overcrowded shelters, neglect situations, or environments where they had little structure or guidance. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even dogs who appear well-behaved in foster care or at the rescue are still adjusting and learning. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should be prepared to continue training and support after adoption. Penguin will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Structure and consistency Continued socialization and engagement Mental stimulation and routine Patience during adjustment periods Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, stability, and commitment, rescue dogs often blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, training, mental stimulation, and financial responsibility. Penguin will need: Daily walks, exercise, and interaction Continued training and engagement Routine wellness exams and preventative veterinary care A safe, stable, indoor living environment Consistent veterinary care, proper nutrition, preventative care, and emotional stability are all essential to helping him live a healthy and happy life. Penguin is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside. Young dogs especially still require continued guidance, structure, patience, and supervision as they mature. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should expect to continue training and support after adoption. Adopting a young dog means being prepared for: Potty training reinforcement and occasional accidents Leash training and obedience work Jumping and playful puppy behavior Continued socialization and confidence-building Daily exercise, structure, and supervision Routine veterinary care and booster vaccines Financial commitment throughout the dog's lifetime Gaspar will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Daily structure and routine Continued socialization and exposure Exercise and mental stimulation Patience, consistency, and supervision Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, guidance, and commitment, dogs like Gaspar blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes training, daily exercise, companionship, routine veterinary care, financial responsibility, and emotional commitment throughout every stage of life. Gaspar will need: Daily walks, exercise, and interaction Continued training and guidance Routine veterinary visits and wellness exams Preventative care including flea, tick, and heartworm prevention Proper nutrition and weight management Mental stimulation and enrichment A safe, stable, indoor living environment Because Gaspar is still a young dog, consistency and structure are especially important in helping him mature into a confident and well-balanced adult dog. Gaspar is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside.
