Story
Thank you for your interest in adopting a cat or dog. We are open for walk in visitors 10am-5pm 7 days a week. NO Appointments needed. Could there possibly be a cuter little face than Homer’s? We certainly don’t think so! This adorable Pekingese boy is as sweet and cuddly as they come, with a playful personality that will keep you smiling. Homer loves being around his people and is always happy to soak up some affection. He’s a fun-loving little guy who enjoys playtime just as much as he enjoys curling up for cuddles. Basically, Homer is the best of both worlds—a playful companion and a professional snuggler! Like many Pekingese, Homer does have some special care needs that his future family should understand. Because he is a brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed, he can overheat much more easily than dogs with longer snouts. His adopter will need to be mindful of his activity level, avoid pushing him too hard, and take extra precautions in warm or hot weather. He’ll do best with someone who understands his limits and is committed to keeping him comfortable and safe. Homer will also need regular grooming to keep his beautiful coat healthy and comfortable. His future family should be prepared to make grooming a regular part of his care routine. If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, cuddly, and incredibly cute little companion—and you’re ready to give a Pekingese the thoughtful care he needs—Homer just might be your perfect match.

Story
Ace is a sweet Shih Tzu or Lhasa mix boy who lost his home and the only life he ever knew. Ace gets along with most other dogs and everyone he meets it seems. He suffered for many years with cherry eyes which are swollen glands in his eyes as well as dry eye. They were repaired as soon as he came to the rescue, but he will probably need eye drops for dry eyes for the rest of his life. He is such a sweet boy and will make a wonderful addition to a quiet home. Like many rescue dogs, we’re not sure how well housetrained Ace is but he “appears” to be potty trained. Ace is a lover who enjoys morning back scratches like no dog I’ve ever met. A good game of fetch is also in his daily agenda. He ❤️’s balls! Ace is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will require professional grooming every 6–8 weeks. Adoption Fee: $275 This fee includes at least one health exam with our veterinarian while in our care, spay/neuter, all vaccinations (including rabies, as age-appropriate), a pre-adoption professional grooming, and a microchip with lifetime registration at no additional cost. Dogs also leave with a new collar and/or harness, leash, and a gift bag that includes, among other things, a starter bag of the quality kibble currently fed at the rescue. Adoption fees also help us rescue the next homeless or unwanted dog in need. If you would like to be considered for Ace or any of our wonderful dogs, please complete an application here. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AZST/Dog We review each application carefully. Please understand that we often receive multiple applications for specific dogs, and as a volunteer-run rescue, we may not be able to respond to everyone. All applications remain in our database, so please feel free to reach out if another dog catches your interest. We truly appreciate every applicant and strive to match each dog and family for a happy, successful life together.

Story
Theo is a wonderful dog who was given up by his owners because they were unable to train him not to bark at strangers. They stated that he wasn’t “cuddly” and they never bonded with him. We have continually worked on this and he is a smart boy who learns quickly. Unfortunately, their frustrations with him may have resulted in inappropriate treatment. We are also working with him on his fearfulness. He was adopted initially at the age of 8 weeks and his owners had him for 4 years. Theo is a personal favorite of mine at the rescue and I think he’s very special. We really want to see him get a patient and understanding person or family. Theo is a great size for hiking and long walks. Is he the boy for you? Theo is a coated dog (hair grows continuously) and will need professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Theo’s adoption fee is $300 This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee. All dogs also leave with a new collar and or harness and leash as well as a gift bag which includes among other things, a starter bag of the quality kibble that is being fed at the rescue. Adoption fees also allow us the ability to put funds towards the next homeless or unwanted dog in need of rescue! If you would like to be considered to for this adoption or any of our amazing rescues, please fill out the application with the help of this link. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AZST/Dog. We review each application carefully. Please understand that sometimes we get numerous applications for specific dogs and as a volunteer-based rescue, we do not always have the time to respond to each one. We do our best to choose the most suitable home for each dog based on their specific personality and needs. Please note you MAY NOT be contacted for up to 10 days to schedule a meet and greet if your family is the most suitable for this rescue dog. Regrettably, we do not have the manpower currently to contact all applicants. We keep ALL applications in our database so please feel free to contact us when you see another dog of interest. We appreciate all applicants and do our best to pair every dog and family for a successful and happy life.
