Story
Meet Penelope — a sweet girl ready for a fresh start!Penelope was born 11/21/2018 and is a beautiful 12-pound Pekingese. She and her son, Roman, were surrendered to a shelter because their owner became too ill to continue taking care of them. Penelope is a very sweet and affectionate girl who loves attention and being with her people. When Penelope was being prepared for her spay, the veterinarians discovered bladder stones. She underwent surgery to have them removed and is recovering well. We are currently waiting for the stone analysis, but it's likely Penelope will need to eat a prescription diet for the rest of her life to help prevent future bladder stones.Like many Pekingese, Penelope has prominent eyes, so her forever family will need to take some extra precautions to protect them. Her home should be mindful that another dog doesn't accidentally scratch her eye and that she is protected from situations where she could bump into things.Although Penelope came into rescue with her son, Roman, they are not bonded and Penelope can be adopted on her own. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.Apply here: https://tinyurl.com/4u3tuy5c-Due to the high volume of applications, our Adoption Coordinator will only contact the applicant that best meets the needs of the pet. Story
This handsome little guy is Roman, born 5/3/2025, and weighing about 16 pounds.Roman recently came into rescue after his owner, who was battling cancer, could no longer care for him and his mom, Penelope. Sadly, Roman also suffered a serious eye injury after a fight with his dad, and unfortunately, his eye could not be saved. He underwent surgery and is recovering very well.Despite everything he has been through, Roman is a happy, affectionate, energetic young dog who loves attention and is ready for his next chapter. His foster describes him as a very sweet boy with plenty of puppy energy. He is playful, outgoing, and has a big personality!Roman does have a bit of a "bossy pants" personality! He likes to think he's in charge and can be pretty pushy with other dogs when he first meets them. However, his foster reports that after a few minutes to settle down, Roman gets along well with other dogs and can happily walk and hang out with the pack.Roman also has some resource-guarding tendencies with both food and toys, so his new family will need to be willing to manage this appropriately. He should be fed separately from other dogs, and toys should not be left out when other dogs are present. For this reason, an only-dog home may be the easiest fit, although Roman can live with another dog with appropriate management and supervision.Roman is also working on his house training and will need continued consistency, patience, and a regular routine. He can be a bit of a roamer, so his new family will need to be careful about doors, gates, and other opportunities for him to wander off.Roman is still a young dog and is learning appropriate manners and boundaries. He will do best with an adopter who understands that he is a work in progress and is willing to continue helping him learn. In return, you'll get a goofy, affectionate, entertaining little guy who wants to be part of your life.Roman is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations, and he is ready to leave his difficult past behind.Apply here: https://tinyurl.com/4u3tuy5c-Due to the high volume of applications, our Adoption Coordinator will only contact the applicant that best meets the needs of the pet.
