Story
Meet Chopper – The Little Dog Who Still Believes His Family Is Out There! Some dogs wait days to find their forever family. Some wait weeks. After 97 applications , Chopper is still waiting. Not because there is anything wrong with him—but because we're waiting for the right family. The one that will love him forever. At just 2½ years old, Chopper has already experienced more heartbreak than most dogs ever should. The first family he ever knew decided they no longer had time for him and gave him away through a Facebook post. Chopper was handed to a stranger in a parking lot, leaving behind the only home he had ever known. Slowly, he learned to trust again. His second family loved him, and he especially adored their six-year-old child. They became the very best of friends, and for a while, life finally felt normal again. Then tragedy struck. His mom unexpectedly lost her job and received an eviction notice. Faced with losing everything, she made the incredibly difficult decision to ask rescue for help rather than risk Chopper ending up somewhere unsafe. For the second time, this little boy lost the people he loved. You might think that would make him stop trusting people. Instead... Chopper still wakes up every morning believing his family is out there. Today, Chopper is thriving in his foster home. He is affectionate, playful, incredibly smart, and has the sweetest personality. He carries his stuffed animals proudly around the house, enjoys playing with other dogs, loves car rides (especially if they include a pup cup), walks beautifully on a leash, and is always happy to curl up beside his foster mom for an evening of Grey's Anatomy. He's house-trained, crate-trained, and one of those dogs who simply wants to be wherever his people are. One of Chopper's favorite days is "go to work" day. He happily rides to the office with his foster mom, greets everyone who stops by, and then curls up under her desk, content just knowing he's close to his person. If you're sitting on the couch, he'll probably be right beside you. If you reach down to pet him, he'll gently lean into your hand. If you stop petting him too soon...well...he'll happily remind you he wasn't quite finished with the snuggles. Chopper loves with his whole heart. Unfortunately, because he's now been abandoned twice by families he thought would love him forever, transitioning into a new home has proven to be harder than anyone anticipated. He's not difficult—he just needs time to believe this family isn't leaving too. His foster family has learned that Chopper isn't looking for a busy household anymore. He's looking for peace. We believe his perfect home would be one with no young children or children over the age of 15, where life is a little calmer and routines are more predictable. Although he did well with younger children in his second home, we believe he will truly flourish in a quieter environment where he can finally exhale and simply enjoy being someone's beloved companion. He would absolutely love another friendly dog to play with, but he'd also be perfectly content being your one and only, soaking up every ounce of attention and love. Chopper is: • 2½-year-old Pekapoo (Pekingese/Poodle mix) • ✅ Neutered • ✅ Up to date on vaccinations • ✅ Heartworm negative • ✅ Microchipped • ✅ House-trained • ✅ Crate-trained • ✅ Dog-friendly • ✅ Great on a leash • ✅ Loves stuffed toys, car rides, pup cups, and couch snuggles From Chopper's Foster Mom... If you've already submitted an application, thank you so much. We've followed up with everyone who has applied. We've also spoken with many wonderful people who requested information, wanted to meet Chopper, or scheduled a visit—only to realize the timing wasn't right. Sometimes vacations come up. Sometimes remodeling projects take longer than expected. Sometimes life simply gets busy. We completely understand. Our only request is that, when you apply for Chopper, you're truly ready to welcome a new family member into your life. This little boy has already had to say goodbye to two families. He deserves a family that has thought about the next several months, has time to help him settle in, and is ready to give him the patience, consistency, and love he needs to realize that this time...he's finally home. Once he knows he's safe, you'll discover exactly what his foster family sees every day—a funny, playful, incredibly loving little dog who wants nothing more than to belong. We know his forever family is out there. Maybe they're reading this right now. If you think your family is ready to welcome a lifelong best friend, please complete an adoption application through Legacy Humane Society. www.LegacyHumaneSociety.org. Chopper's foster mom would love to tell you all about this incredible little boy. His next home should be his last...and without question, his very best.  We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at http://legacyhumanesociety.org/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application.
