Meet Shadow, our delightful 3-year-old Pekingese mix! This easygoing fella embodies affection, sweetness, and undying love for his humans. Shadow has mastered his potty training skills with finesse and has no qualms about cozying up in his crate at night - although he'd be even happier in his owner's warm, cozy bed.
Playful and good around polite and calm kids, as well as balanced furry friends, Shadow is a versatile companion, ready to adapt to any family dynamic. Whether it's a retired couple seeking a furry friend or a house with school-aged kids, Shadow fits right in. He appreciates his space to be respected, so exuberant or non-savvy kiddos are probably not the best fit for him. He would do well in a pack or as an only pup. His biggest hope is for a family who is home most of the time, as he bonds deeply and finds separation from his people hard.
This little guy has a zest for life! He enjoys leisurely walks and indulging in delicious meals. Shadow finds joy in lounging on the deck, basking in the warm sunlight when not engaged in playful romps.

If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
