Story
Danny, a 16 month old gentle giant with a loving heart, awaits a forever home that understands his delicate nature. In his past, trauma has left scars, but with the right environment, he can blossom into the affectionate companion he longs to be. A quiet home with a single female owner working from home, would provide Danny with the stability and comfort he needs. His present foster environment has an adult male and female. Danny is always connected to the female but bounces back and forth with the male. One day he is terrified and runs to his crate whenever the male arrives, and the next day he is licking his face and wanting scratches and loving. He is unsure of smaller humans and would be best suited in a home without children under 10-12 years old. Danny's emotional intelligence is extraordinary. He is incredibly perceptive of human emotions and can sense when someone is feeling down or anxious. This empathy makes him an exceptional companion, offering comfort and support through his gentle presence.Danny is well-trained and knows various commands and tricks having completed beginner and intermediate training. He walks well on a leash, listening attentively to his human's instructions. However, his recall is still a work in progress, though he is a quick learner and eager to please.Despite his impressive size, Danny is surprisingly playful and energetic. He loves to run and can spend hours chasing after a ball or engaging in friendly games with his foster brother. However, he is still unsure about his dog beds, having gone through several before finding a few that he feels comfortable with.Danny's love for toys is undeniable, but his black Kong is his absolute favorite. It's the only toy that can withstand his chewing prowess. While he can be cautious and nervous around men, Danny is gradually socializing well with his neighbors and friends. He is believed to be a mix of Shepherd and either Boxer or Belgian Malinois (based on his colouring), a combination that results in a large and loving dog.Danny's safe spot is his crate, and he needs unrestricted access to it at all times. He enjoys car rides, couches and beds but we are unsure if he was ever allowed on them in the past. His passive and chill demeanor makes him a delightful companion, but patience is essential as he gets to know his new surroundings and people. In the past, Danny struggled with anxiety peeing and separation anxiety. He was successful in breaking out of standard wire crates (through brute force). Once he got an escape proof crate, he seemed to have given up on his escape attempts and is quite content hanging out in his safe space While he has made significant progress, there may be days when he reverts to these behaviors. It's important to remember that he would thrive best in a larger area with a fenced-in yard and daily walks to provide him with the mental and physical stimulation he needs.Danny is neutered, up-to-date with all his shots, and on a particular supplement that his new family should continue with, as recommended by his veterinarian. He is a big love bug who enjoys fetching shoes and playing with his foster brother, though he is still learning to be mindful of his size around smaller dogs.Danny is a unique old soul who deserves a loving and patient family who will cherish him for the gentle giant he is. With the right environment and care, he will blossom into a loyal and devoted companion, filling their lives with endless love and joy.HIstory: Danny was part of the Dover Dozen, a group of 12 puppies dumped at the side of a road near Port Dover. He unfortunately spent the first 11 months of his life in a shelter. He has been fostered since March of 2024, with his foster brother Dexter (who is also available for adoption). The two of them together provide endless hours of laughter and entertainment and a dual adoption would certainly be an option. Story
Sury | Female | 2 years old | 53 lbs | Shepherd mix Sury is the most gentle dog in the world and doesn't have a single mean bone in her body. She was found as a stray living under a porch, but thankfully she's now safe in a foster home and really opening up to all that indoor living and family love have to offer! Sury is very sweet and welcomes everyone, human or dog, into her pack. She's a quick learner, very food motivated, and shows no signs of resource guarding. She has an outdoor bathroom routine already in place, sleeps through the night, and will sit before meals and when getting her harness on. This girl is smart and up for learning new skills! She's also a collector; she loves her toys and is also fond of picking up a shoe or stray sock to take to her bed, not to destroy but to keep safe and get comfort from. She loves men and women equally, and seems curious about children. Sury has a medium energy level. She likes to play outside and walks well on leash (though squirrels are intriguing!) She can be a little shy with new dogs but warms up quickly and is very respectful of older dogs. She'd be a wonderful second dog, or happy as a solo dog. Sury really loves to be close to her people, either cuddling or relaxing nearby. For this reason, she'd love a family where someone is home a fair bit. She gets comfort from closeness, and you will surely get comfort from her too! Like many dogs who have had a harder start in life, Sury needed to learn how to play. She's taking to it like a champ, and is really goofy when playing with her toys, often ending up in silly positions and even somersaulting while running around. This girl is so beautiful inside and out. She's going to make an absolutely dreamy companion to some lucky adopter! Story
Sweet Pea | Female| 11 months| 27 lbs| Cat and dog friendly | Toronto We at PAWS have seen a lot of cute pairs of ears come through our doors: floppy, sticky uppy, horizontal, one up, one down, etc. etc. That said, Sweet Pea is in the Ear Hall of Fame with her proud and pointy set of ears! There's a lot of personality in these expressive ears, and it's just the one of many things that make Sweet Pea so special. Sweet Pea lives up to her name by being one of the sweetest and gentlest dogs around. She is good with other dogs and cats, curious and respectful. She takes treats so softly from your hand. In fact, she does everything softly since she's such a gentle girl. She'd be a wonderful second dog as she loves to play chase with her the other dog in her foster home, and always looks to this dog for confidence and guidance. Sweet Pea walks well on leash, is fully house trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and loves the crate with an open door as her safe space. She's very well behaved, especially given that she's just a baby! Like any puppy she's prone to big bursts of energy and she loves to run. She's learning about toys but needs more encouragement to play! Sweet Pea is shy but coming out of her shell every day with encouragement, consistency, and love. If you can offer her this support, and a home to be herself and really let those iconic ears fly, then please apply via the application at https://form.jotform.com/pawsacrossthewater/adoption-application
