Story
Miriam is a wonderful dog. She is incredibly intelligent and sweet to her owners. We got her a little over a year ago (she is about 6 years old) and it has become clear that she should not be in a house with younger kids. She is an alpha girl. With us she has shown some impulse control issues with mostly male strangers and the kids when they surprise her. These instances have involved growling and snapping but no biting. She would do really well in a house with another submissive dog who likes to run and play or even a playful cat. We have a cat who is not at all interested in her and she is very sweet and gentle with the cat. We also have backyard chickens that she does not mess with at all as they free range. Miriam loves a good walk and would be such a good companion to someone without small kids who does not have a lot of visitors coming and going.

If you are an intelligent and active person or a couple looking to adopt a dog with a similar temperament, I could be an excellent match for you. I love going for walks and would appreciate having someone who can incorporate that into my daily routine. She came into our care on 4/16 alongside Silver, and while life at the shelter has been overwhelming, the one constant has been their love for one another. These two likely spent their lives as outdoor yard dogs, and the transition to indoor life and human affection is still new—but Starling is learning, slowly and sweetly, that love is safe. She finds courage in Silver’s calm leadership, taking cues from her “big sister” as she explores new people and environments. In return, Starling offers a deep, loyal affection to those who earn her trust. In their small shelter kennel, you’ll find them curled together like puzzle pieces—grooming one another, cuddling for comfort, and waiting patiently for a home that won’t separate them.
