Story
Meet Callie!
Callie is a 2-year-old Coton de Tulear weighing just 9 pounds. This sweet, sensitive girl is still learning to trust people and is looking for a patient, understanding home that will allow her to move at her own pace as she gains confidence.
Callie prefers to explore the world on her own terms and will thrive with adopters who respect her boundaries and give her the time and space she needs to feel safe. Because she takes comfort from other dogs, Callie requires a home with a confident canine companion who can help show her the ropes, model positive behaviors, and provide reassurance as she continues to adjust.
She is good with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends around. Callie also requires a securely fenced yard where she can safely run, explore, and build confidence in her surroundings.
Callie can be sensitive about handling, and our behavior team would be happy to speak with interested adopters to discuss her needs in more detail and help ensure a successful match. In the meantime, our behavior team will continue working with Callie on handling and desensitization exercises to help her become more comfortable and confident.
A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for both Callie and her potential adopters.
With patience, understanding, and the support of a confident dog friend, Callie has the potential to continue blossoming into a wonderful companion. She is looking for a family willing to let her set the pace, celebrate her progress, and help her continue building confidence in her new home.
------
Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
