Story
Socialization: Benz  is initially shy when meeting new people and dogs but within about 5 minutes he is ok and will walk alongside new dogs and people. He is good with the 7 other dogs (1 is a littermate) at his foster home and does well with new dogs after he has been around them a few minutes. He can seem dominant when meeting a new dog but that changes once he realizes the new dog isn’t a threat to him. He ignores the cat and doesn’t chase her. Training: Benz is good in the house, he is housebroken. He is also good in a crate when foster mom is gone. He does respond to his name when called. Foster mom is currently working with a trainer to make him less afraid when meeting new people and dogs. His adopter will also have to continue working with him to help build his confidence. Activity requirements: He loves walks and goes on 1-2 long walks daily and is good on a leash. He also plays with his sister in back yard and in the house. He does well in the fenced yard and likes being outside if weather is nice. He also loves being inside with foster mom.  Fence requirements: A fence would be ideal as he is not a good candidate for dog parks. An invisible fence may also be a good option for him.  Personality: Benz is affectionate and does like being hugged and cuddled. He most enjoys being inside with foster mom and his sister. Health history: He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly heartworm prevention. His next leish test is due in November 2026. He has no known health issues. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster comments:  Benz is a wonderful dog who will continue to gain confidence as he gets older and becomes more sure of himself. When he arrived, he was definitely the more scared of the 2 pups (his sister Mercedes is very outgoing and confident). Benz will make a great companion to a person or family looking for a dog who has a winning personality, great looks and a sweet temperament. Foster location: Durham, NC Guardian Angels: The typical adoption fee for our dogs is $490, however, Benz has $250 of his adoption fee covered by a donation from the Nikolich Family and another donation of $90 through our Guardian Angel program! As a result, his adoption fee is $150. Read more about our Guardian Angel program here: https://givebutter.com/s34cU4 Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA. If the adopter is more than 1,000 miles from the foster home, adoption would only be possible if the adopter is willing to drive the distance beyond the 1,000-mile transport limit. Long distance adoptions may also be possible if the adopter is willing to pay for a flight for getting their dog from the foster home to their location if the foster feels this is an appropriate arrangement for the specific dog. Canadian adopters would have to drive into the USA to pick up their dog, as we do not transport outside of the USA. ##2475285##

Story
Socialization: Kia is a sweet 1 year old pointer mix that has been living at our Rescue Ranch. She was recently placed with us as a foster and has blossomed!  Kia is playful and loves other dogs, but she can be nervous at first. Slow intros are good for her, but she absolutely ADORES my dogs and loves being with them.  She has not been around young kids yet, but she loves my teenage boys! We have not cat tested her yet, but does very well with young puppies and other dogs - big and small (I have a 17 lb chi/pom mix as well as a 25 lb setter mix).  She takes correction very well from both my dogs when she is too much for them. Her prey drive is low, so a cat may be possible.  I will cat test if someone is interested in that. Training: Kia is a very clever girl and caught onto our house routine very quickly!  She knows to go to our sunroom and sit when it's time to eat.  She knows sit, down and come, but can be a bit stubborn or have selective hearing, HA HA.  She does well on a leash and LOVES to go for walks!  She gets sad when she sees her foster siblings go before her and cannot wait until it's her turn!  She typically sleeps on the couch in our sunroom, but would happily share your bed with you.  She needs to be allowed on furniture in her forever home.  We have never crated her and not had any issues with her destroying things she should not.  Always wise to keep nice things up and away, just in case!  She gets nervous in the car, but it is manageable.  We are working on making the car more exciting for her and taking her to fun places in the car.  She is already relaxing more when we take trips in the car.  Kia adapted very well to living in a house in terms of potty training - next on our list is teaching her to ring the bell to go outside.  She generally yips at us if she needs to go out.  Her accidents are very few and normal for only being in our house for a few weeks.  As long as he gets regular breaks outside, there shouldn't be any issues for her in this department! Activity requirements: Kia loves to run and play. She is a young energetic dog and would do best in a home with someone who loves to hike or run. A fenced in area would be a plus. Kia has been working on leash walking and she does great now on walks! She loves tug and chase!  As she has gotten older, she defintely needs exercise, but she is relatively calm and laid back for a pointer.  We do not have a large yard and she has done well with daily walks and playtime. Fence requirements: Kia is an active dog and will need exercise every day. If her adoptive home does not have a fenced yard, she will need a home with a solid exercise plan. Physical fences are preferred, but an invisible fence may be an option for her as well.  She has not learned to potty on a leash yet, which may be the only issue of not having a fenced yard. Personality: Kia is a sweet and affectionate puppy! She enjoys play with other dogs, and likes to play tug and chew on her toys. I believe she would do well in a home with another playful dog, but don't think it's required. She will follow me around the house and has also earned her badge for bathroom supervising!  She loves to take naps on our bed, and it's the only time she is not following me around!   Health history: Kia is a healthy puppy, she is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Her next leish test will be due in November 2027. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster comments: Kia came over with the rest of her litter from Greece in Jan 2026. She is 1 of 10 puppies we rescued from the fires in Greece last summer.  Her mom and 8 of her siblings have found their forever homes - all the families absolutely LOVE these dogs.  Kia is such a sweet and affectioante dog!  She will lean into you to get all the love and affection that she can!  We fostered her brother, Beemer, and they are so similar - very smart, clever and silly too!  She talks to us with silly little noises and yawns - just like her brother!  We have loved watching her blossom in a home.  The Ranch is fantastic, but getting time in a home is so special for these dogs that are waiting for their happily ever after!  Kia is a tall girl and has super model legs, but she is so laidback and not crazy like a typical pointer.  Her size has not been an issue at all!  She is so gentle and also easy to walk!  Whoever gets her as a forever family member is getting a true gem.  She is so well behaved and has been one of our easiest foster transitions. You can see more photos of her on our instagram @i_love_setters Foster location: Oak Park, IL Guardian Angels: The typical adoption fee for our dogs is $490, however, Kia has had $100 of her adoption fee covered by her Guardian Angel in memory of Peach and another Guardian Angel has donated an additional $240 of her adoption fee! As a result, her adoption fee is $150. Story
Socialization:  Russell is a very friendly, social, and loving boy. He ADORES his people and wants to be as close to you as possible. Our Rescue Ranch team has observed that he can be a little standoffish with strangers when he is in his kennel, but when free, he seems comfortable meeting people. For those he knows, he loves to give hugs, so we are working on teaching him only to jump up and hug if invited to do so. Russell has been friendly with both men and women, but he is nervous around the toddler of one of our Ranch employees. We think he would do well with children above the age of 7 and would love to have some school aged or older children in his family. Russell is a very people-oriented dog, but he also gets along well with other dogs. He did have some humping behaviors in the beginning, but that has steadily decreased as he has settled in with us. Despite the occasional humping, he's gotten along well with all the other dogs in his travel group in Greece and at Rescue Ranch. He's become best friends with our shy girl Harlie, and they love to play together. While he is good with other dogs and will play, Russell is happiest when he is beside his people getting love and attention. We have not personally seen Russell interact with cats, but his rescuer in Greece told us that she tested him with cats and he didn't show any signs of aggression at all. Since we haven't seen him with cats ourselves, we would recommend very careful and supervised introductions. Training:  He is very intelligent he knows "Sit" and "Lay Down". Currently, we are working on his "Place" command and working on leash manners. He does tend to pull on the leash but is getting better and better with each training session. Russell has some food insecurity which makes him very eager to eat. He just needs time to understand that he is going to get fed every day and be able to rely on his people for that nutrition. Feeding him with a slow feeder bowl has been a huge help in slowing him down and letting him enjoy his food. Russell is generally well-behaved inside, although he has tried to mark a few times, but that behavior is becoming less and less with time. I would recommend using a belly band inside initially to help teach him not to lift his leg indoors, but he is learning rapidly. He is calm and sweet inside and does not chew on things he shouldn't. He is crate trained and settles down nicely in his kennel. Activity requirements:  Russell is an active boy and needs regular daily exercise, but he also likes to relax and hang out with his people and his doggy friends. A fenced yard is always ideal, but a couple of long walks a day would also be sufficient for him. Russell has enough energy to keep up with all your adventures, but he can also be calm and chill out at home as long as he's had some exercise. Russell does still pull some on the leash, but we are working on that, and he is improving every day. Fence requirements:  A fenced in backyard would be perfect for Russell, but I do think he could be trained to an invisible fence or be fine with regular walks and hikes. He does not have a huge prey drive that we have seen, and he has not tried to challenge the fence at all. Personality:  Russell is a very people-focused dog. He is desperate for love and affection and really wants to be with people. He likes to be as close to you and possible, and he thinks hugs are awesome. He will happily follow you around wherever you go, and if he can lean against you, that's even better. He does also like to play with the other dogs... but generally he does so in bursts and then will return to his people. If you don't mind sharing your couch with a big boy, Russell would love to spend his evenings snuggled up watching TV with you! Health history:   Russell is in great health. All his blood tests for parasites and infectious diseases were negative and he is microchipped, neutered, fully vaccinated and on monthly tick/flea and heartworm prevention. He was quite skinny when first rescued, but he has filled out well now, and his body condition is excellent. His next leishmaniasis test is due January 2027. Foster comments:  Russell is hoping for a family that will love him as much as he will love you! He would love to be able to be close to his people as much as possible, so a family who works from home or who could take him along to work would be ideal for him. That said, he does not have any separation anxiety and will relax at home in a kennel as long as he's had some exercise before hand. Russell does enjoy the water and will stand with his feet in the bucket on a warm day, so a family with a pool, river/lake, or beach nearby would be wonderful... but at the end of the day, as long as he is loved, Russell doesn't care where he lives! Foster location: Delton, MI Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA.
