Story
Pet Location: Wayside Waifs Campus My Friends at Wayside say: - I`m a gentle and charming lady who would love a couch to snooze on!- I have been described as an easy going who loves to lean in for pets.- I have displayed some touch sensitivities. Ask our staff for more info! My home needs are: - Wayside recommends I be the only dog in your home - I prefer having your attention all to myself! - If you have a dog in the home, I must meet the dog before adoption to ensure that we can be buddies.- I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises. - If you have kids in the home between 6 and 9 years old, I will need to meet them since I can be nervous around new people and loud noises. Hi there, my name is Summer!I’m a five-year-old pointer mix with a lot of love to give and a whole lot of charm to spare. If you`re looking for an easygoing gal to complete your family, I think we might just be the paw-fect match!I’m pretty much the definition of a gentle soul. My absolute favorite things in life are getting sweet head scratches, soaking up all the pets you`re willing to give, and finding a nice, cozy couch to relax on. I’m incredibly low-maintenance and adapt well to just about any vibe, as long as there`s a comfortable spot for me to snooze near my favorite people. While I do love my lounge time, I’m also looking for a dedicated teammate to help me on a little fitness journey. I’ve enjoyed a few too many treats lately, so I’m looking for an adopter who will help me shed a few pounds with some healthy portions and nice, easy walks.Because I want to soak up every single ounce of your affection (and don`t want to share my workout routine), I do need to be the only dog in my new home. Trust me, though…I have more than enough love, sweetness, and charm to fill your heart all by myself! Are you ready to make this the best Summer ever? I`m so excited to meet you!Love, Summer

Story
Meet Dexter: Your Future Companion Dexter is a charming and affectionate male Pointer mix dog, estimated to be approximately 3-4 years of age. Weighing a solid 50 pounds, he is the ideal medium size for both relaxed indoor companionship and active outdoor exploration. Dexter's defining characteristic is his unwavering enthusiasm for life and affection. He is playful and cuddly. His ideal home to perform these tasks are someone who works from home or is home at least 8 hours a day. If not, he needs a solid place to stay as his anxiety gets the best of him. He has not been tested with kids, but our recommendation is kids of 12 years of age that understand how to read dog behavior. Dexter is being fostered with dogs of all ages/sizes and a cat. We suggest his future home is with dogs his size or smaller and non-dominate males. On days when the sun is shining he loves to sunbathe on the deck or explore the fenced in yard. He is curious about his environment so it is suggested he have a fenced yard. If Dexter sounds like the companion you have been waiting for, please reach out via Lucky13rescue.org he would be happy to meet you. Dexter has a heart murmur that is currently in a watch-and-listen status. With consistent exercise and training, he is expected to have a fulfilling life. Dexter is fully vetted, neutered, and current on all vaccinations. He is also microchipped. His adoption fee is $225. Apply to adopt Dexter today at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/LUCK/Dog or at www.lucky13rescue.org.

Meet our friend Andy from @Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption. This sweet, energetic guy has been waiting a while for his new home, but he knows the right person or people will see him and pick him soon. Read about Andy and then let us know if you'd like to meet him. Maybe you'll be the one to pick Andy. Let's start by telling you that Andy is funny and entertaining and loving and such a goof. He's an eight-year-old pointer mix who has plenty of pointer energy. He would love an adult-only home where there aren't a lot of people coming and going because new people can be scary. He would be fabulous in a home with patient people who adore him, and where he can go on lots of walks or runs and play ball outside -- his favorite game! An avid nature lover, Andy also likes to watch birds and squirrels. (He's really just a little nosey, so he'll happily keep an eye on the neighborhood for you, too. Remember Mrs. Kravitz from Bewitched?) Andy is also a very smart boy. He's already crate trained and house trained, knows basic commands, and is always up for learning more. Do you have other pets in your home? Andy could do well with another pet (including cats!), as long as he had a proper, slow introduction. And here's another cool thing about Andy -- he's currently in board and train with The Pet Connection and would continue with classes and support after adoption. The Pet Connection will also help you with introductions to your current pets. To learn more about Andy, please call or text us at 913-671-PETS (7387). Andy's staying in Beloit, Kansas, but transport is available to the right home. #thepetconnection #PointerMix #AdoptDontShop #RescueDog #PetAdoption #DogLovers #KansasPets #ForeverHome

Story
Meet Stella! Stella is the total package . . . friendly, social, trained, and ready for a family of her own. This sweet girl arrived at the Chillicothe Animal Shelter in April 2025 and has spent over a year waiting for someone to choose her. We pulled her out this week and she is now in Kansas City and ready for a home of her own! While she waited, Stella made the most of her time by participating in Missouri's Puppies for Parolees program, where shelter dogs work with inmates on obedience training, manners, and socialization. As a graduate of the program, Stella has a wonderful foundation and knows commands such as: - Sit - Stay - Down - Come She was also reported to be potty trained, giving her future family a great head start. One of Stella's biggest advantages is her size. At approximately 35-40 pounds, she's a wonderful medium-sized dog . . .big enough to join you on adventures, but small enough to comfortably fit into many households. But Stella's best qualities go far beyond her training. She is a friendly, easy going dog who enjoys being around people and loves spending time with other dogs. We've had her in playgroups with dogs of different sizes, ages, and personalities, and she has done wonderfully. She enjoys canine companionship and knows how to interact appropriately with other dogs. Stella has the kind of temperament that makes you wonder why she's still waiting. She's affectionate, well-mannered, social, and adaptable qualities that make her an excellent family companion. Here is a video of her with her kennelmate out of the shelter: https://youtu.be/FWxQm2QpYLk This is he video of her IN the shelter. Can you believe she was there for 1 yr and 1 month?!: https://youtu.be/KGknPuXpp-0 After spending more than a year in a shelter environment, Stella is more than ready to trade her kennel for a couch, her shelter routine for family adventures, and her temporary address for a forever home. Here is a video from this week when we arrived in KC: https://youtube.com/shorts/DcC7M9sn6bk?feature=share If you're looking for a loyal companion with both training and personality, Stella may be your perfect match. Interested in adopting Stella? www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application Basics: She is a spayed female guessed to be around 2 yrs old and she weighs around 35-40lbs. She goes to daycare daily at the Pete N Macs in Lee's Summit! Adoption Process: - Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application - One of our team members will get back to you via phone. - Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding - Adoption fee of $200 helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip. -We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available. About Day of the Dogs Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances. Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets. Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes. We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together. Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission. Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations. Every transport, veterinary appointment, supply purchase, and life saved is possible because of supporters who believe every dog deserves a chance. Donate or learn more: www.dayofthedogs.org

Story
Willow is a 3 year old pointer and staffordshire terrier mix. She does well with kids and our younger cat. The older cats are not interested in her attention. Willow would do well with other dogs and a back yard to play in and sun bathe. She does well on walks when walking with a harness. She loves car rides and will sleep on her dog bed for longer trips. She is house trained but will need to adjust to a new place. She is loves attention but is also good about entertaining herself. She enjoys other pets. She loves to play fetch, walk, hike and run.
