He arrived looking less like a dog and more like a cautionary tale about what happens if you ignore moisturizer for several consecutive lifetimes. Korben was, quite literally, flaking away, like if you took a perfectly good dog and replaced 30% of him with dust and discomfort.But here’s the part that really got us -- On the drive to Animal Aid Society, this 45-pound, pointy-nosed pointer mix, who had every reason to file a formal complaint against the universe, curled up in his transporter’s lap. Just folded himself in there like, “Yes, this seems correct.” And every so often, he’d look up at her with this soft, adoring expression, as if to say, “I assume you're taking me somewhere better, and I've decided to believe in that.”Fast forward a few medicated baths and antibiotics, and Korben has undergone a transformation. The dust is settling, literally, and what’s left is a healthy, 6-year-old, 45-pound bundle of pure, wiggly joy.And the smile. We need to talk about the smile.This dog appears to be smiling at all times. Not in a creepy, “I know something you don’t know” way. More like he's just remembered that life includes snacks, soft beds, and people who think he's wonderful (which, to be clear, he is).Korben is affectionate, snuggly, and enthusiastically committed to the belief that every human and dog he meets is his new best friend. What Korben needs now is a home, preferably one with people who appreciate a dog who'll greet them like they're returning heroes from a long and perilous journey (even if they just went to check the mail).He has already done the hard part: believing things could get better. Now he just needs someone to prove him right.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA, and visiting hours are from 9am to noon, every single day - including weekends and holidays.Interested? Freckles came to us with a super unfortunate story. She was surrendered to Westmoreland County shelter at 3 months old where she said until she came to us at around 7 months old. She has essentially lived almost her entire life in a shelter. She is playful, and so intelligent. She is a little mouthy, and jumpy, but we are working on it. Puppies will be puppies. She loves walks and laying at your feet. She is a gorgeous girl who just needs a person to give her a chance to blossom.

I love cuddling and I’m super loyal. I’m not shy with people but new things can be a bit scary at first. I love small spaces and would probably love my own crate. I'm the sweetest friend you'll ever have. I'm very friendly and have a submissive nature, so I'll always let you take the lead! I'm looking for someone who loves quiet evenings and doesn't mind giving me a little time to become familiar with my surroundings. Adopting me means gaining a forever friend who will always be there to cheer you up and cuddle away your worries.

Story
SUNNY Sunny is a beautiful handsome sweet gentle but strong and energetic Lemon and White Hound possibly Pointer mix boy. He was found by a neighbor January 2023 in pitiful shape. Bloody, wounded, skeletal - so weak, starved and exhausted he could barely stand. But his beautiful spirit was quickly restored with food and vetting and love. He has been treated for Heartworm, tickborne, and he has been neutered - YAY! Amazingly, he still loves people. He is dog friendly and cat friendly. He is really good on his leash. He plays with toys and enjoys his meals and treats. His teeth are extremely worn down from his harsh cruel former life. And one of his eyes was lost. But overall he is HAPPY, healthy, and enjoying life - thank goodness and knock on wood. He loves being outside in the fenced yard, and has perfect indoor manners whether crated or in his "living room." He really would make a sweet easy going companion to a nice person in need.
