Meet Lentil! Lentil is approximately 3 years old and is thought to be a Chihuahua Mix.*Lentil is in Foster Care to help him prepare for a forever home.Lentil is a recent intake from a terrible hoarding situation in a neighboring county. Unfortunately, Lentil lived with 40+ other dogs in a small space that was incredibly filthy & unhealthy. That being said, the fact that these dogs were neglected of social skills, loving human touch, and everything in the outside world is even worse. Lentil's adopters will need to understand the commitment of adopting a "Hoarding Case Dog" as they are often unsocialized to the outside world and require extra patience and love.Lentil is used to living with other dogs, so we're hoping to find him a home with another friendly dog whose lead he can follow. We are taking things one step at a time, but his family should understand that he is not yet used to walking on leash and may require extra time to learn that as well.Lentil is a very sensitive baby who has been through a lot. He likes the safety of his kennel, and will retreat in there with his stuffy toy if he needs a break from the noise. He also enjoys his dog bed in his outdoor dog run (he's been using his doggy door to go in and out).We think Lentil would do fine with cats, but we are not recommending him with small children at this time. Because smaller kids/toddlers are often involved with louder noises, quicker movements, and because they're unable to read behavioral cues and respect boundaries, Lentil would likely prefer a home with older kids or adults. This will obviously also be based on the adopter's experience with dogs like Lentil.We know that Lentil's emotional recovery may be a long road. He's been through so much trauma and change in a short amount of time...but we also know that his future can be filled with love and happiness and playfulness and wagging tails if he finds someone who doesn't mind helping him get there.We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved:https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.htmlLentil is neutered, microchipped & fully vaccinated. Meet Trixie! Trixie is approximately 3 years old and is thought to be a Chihuahua/American Eskimo mix.Trixie was surrendered after having lived on a farm and wanting to be a house dog, but was kept outside. Because of this, we are hoping to find her someone who is willing to let her be an indoor princess. She did live around other dogs, cats, children & farm animals.Trixie has been a bit bashful during her first few days at the shelter - we're sure it's just a culture shock coming to a place like this for the first time, so we're simply taking it slowly and letting her absorb all of her new surroundings. We want to make sure her new family understands that time and patience will be required. We don't want her to be overwhelmed, but instead to feel safe and loved in her new home no matter how long it takes her to settle in.Trixie is incredibly loving and enjoys being petted and held. We're told she likes to play fetch, but she isn't quite ready to show us that just yet. The family who surrendered her said they believed she was housetrained before they got her, but a refresher course will be recommended so that she can get used to a new schedule. A nice cozy kennel space for herself would be beneficial as well, that way she can retreat if she feels the need.Even though she's been bounced around a little bit and that has caused Trixie some confusion, we know she'll overcome this trauma and settle in nicely with the right person.
