Story
I AM A HERO PET!! My adoption fee is $180!! Dogs are usually tested with other dogs their size, and we encourage meet-and-greets with your dog before adoption. Cat tests are available if requested, but they only check for clear aggression. Always be careful when introducing dogs to cats. Advice about dogs living with children is based on behavior like energy level and how the dog handles touch. Young children should never be left alone with dogs, and we cannot guarantee how any dog will behave with kids or other pets. Behavior seen in the shelter is just a snapshot and may change in a home. Dogs come from many backgrounds and may need training, time, and patience. Dogs should not be fed together unless you know they do not guard food. We also suggest learning about a dog's breed or mix to be sure it fits your family. Moving to a new home can be stressful for dogs. Use the Rule of 3 to help them adjust: First 3 days: Dogs may feel scared, tired, overexcited, or not want to eat. First 3 weeks: Dogs start learning routines and may show new behaviors. Keep things calm and avoid busy places. First 3 months: Dogs usually feel settled and more comfortable. Story
Hello Hoomans: My name is Dipsy and I am a 2 year old, male, Pomeranian/ Chihuahua mix. I am looking for a forever home with a forever hooman inside. I am tan, yellow and fawn in color and am small; less than 25 lbs. I have had all my shots and have been neutered. I am also good with other dogs. As I mentioned, I am looking for a forever home but, more importantly, I need a SPECIAL forever hooman to be my best friend and support. You see, I have a terrible fear of hoomans that you will need to help me confront and change. I really don’t know when or why I developed this fear and neither do the hoomans here at Golden Paws Animal Rescue. Even if I did know, I couldn’t speak to them with words to tell them. But, like all dogs, I can tell them a lot without words. There’s one person here that I can tell things to in various ways and they seem to understand. I talk to them with my eyes and my body language, my movements and even the energy I give off. Sometimes my language is very subtle and a little hard to read. Likewise, I can tell a lot about what a hooman is thinking by the expression on their face and their body movements. Even a hooman’s scent can tell me if they are afraid or not. If they are afraid, sometimes I think I should be afraid too, and it just makes things worse. So I need a hooman who either lives alone or maybe a couple. I’m not able to live with children at this time, not even teenagers. They mean well, but they can’t read my messages. They move too suddenly and frighten me. My hooman will need to be experienced in handling a dog who’s afraid of hoomans. Someone who is not a first time dog handler and someone who can cope with a dog who, out of fear, may try to run away. I understand that I am asking a lot of my forever hooman. You must be someone who understands that I am a dog, not a hooman and that my psychology is different; someone who loves dogs and is able to bond with them. I need a hooman with nearly in-hooman patience. Someone who believes a life shouldn’t be thrown away because of problems that aren’t their fault; someone who didn’t stop reading. My story halfway through. Someone Like You! So please fill out an application, and come in for a visit. Don’t be hurt if I pull back or don’t race over to see you. And if you are the kind of person who has gone that far, let’s try to “Get er done!” Hopefully, Dipsy “The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is the dog. “ Senator George G Vest (Mo.) Eulogy Of The Dog September 23, 1870
