Story
Six years old, and she has never once been someone's dog. She has been a lot of other things. A survivor on the streets of Mecca. A mother, more times than anyone can count precisely. A regular at whatever back doors the neighbors left food by. She learned the desert, the traffic, the heat, the whole grim curriculum, and she passed. What she never got was a person, a couch, a name someone called across a yard because they were glad to see her. She is a black and white husky, about fifty five pounds, and she is a genuinely beautiful animal. Not beautiful in spite of anything. Beautiful. The coat, the markings, the pale-eyed husky look that makes people stop mid-sentence. She has some scars, the way anyone would who spent six years outside. They are part of her and she carries them without ceremony. Here is the thing about North that surprises people. Six years of that life did not make her hard. She likes dogs. She likes kids. She meets people with the open, unbothered friendliness of a dog who has decided that humans are, on balance, all right. Nobody would have blamed her for concluding otherwise. She didn't. That is a remarkable amount of grace from an animal who got very little of it herself. She is spayed and up to date on shots. The part of her life that involved raising puppies in the heat is finished permanently, and someone made sure of it. What she is now is a middle-aged husky who is out of the hardest chapter and has a lot of good years in front of her. Huskies are talkative, opinionated, funny dogs who like to be included in things and will tell you at length when they aren't. That's coming. She's still figuring out that food arrives on schedule and doors open for her and nobody is going to make her leave. Give her time and the personality underneath all that surviving gets to come out. The right home for her has a fence, some patience, and a person who understands that a dog learning to be a pet at six is going to need a minute to believe it. What she does not need is anyone's pity. She has done fine without it for six years. What she needs is a bed, a name, and one person who intends to keep her. Story
HI, I'M KENNY! I'm a handsome little Pomeranian who started life as a stray in Mexico. I was out there doing my best independent-man routine when a kind Good Samaritan found me. She happened to work at a veterinary hospital that Desert Paws Sanctuary works with and reached out to see if they could help. Luckily, a foster opened up and I got my ticket to a brand-new life! Now, a little about me... I'm an independent gentleman. I like people, but I'm not the type who needs to be attached to your hip 24/7. I have things to do, places to nap, and important Pomeranian business to handle. Other dogs? Yep, I'm good with them. Cats? We're cool. Kids? I do well with older kids! My current foster even has an elementary-school-aged daughter. I'm a really good boy, but I do have ONE RULE: PLEASE KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY FEET. I don't know what happened in my past, but having my feet touched is simply not on my list of approved activities. Respect the paws and we'll get along just fine. Other than my very reasonable foot policy, I'm a sweet, easygoing little guy looking for a family who will love me, give me time to settle in, and appreciate my independent personality. I survived the streets of Mexico, made my way to Desert Paws Sanctuary, and now there's only one thing left on my itinerary... FIND MY FOREVER HOME! Story
Hi, I'm Chiquita. I'm a 5-month-old Bull Terrier mix who grew up as a stray in Thermal, trying to survive all on my own. I didn't really get the chance to learn how to "just be a puppy," but now that I'm safe, I'm finally discovering how fun life can be. I'm playful, full of energy, and always ready to explore. Every day I learn something new. For example how to trust, how to play, how to enjoy being loved, and it feels amazing. I'm an active girl, and I'd love a family who will keep me busy, take me on adventures, and help me continue growing into the happy, confident dog I'm meant to be. If you're looking for a sweet, spirited pup with a big heart and lots of potential, I'm your Chiquita. Let's take on the world together.
