Story
We are re-homing Nico for a couple of reasons. Our family grew from 2 to 5 in the last 5 years. Unfortunately, we just do not have the time for his energetic personality. We found our oldest is also allergic to pet dander. Nico is 7 years old. He is neutered. He is house and crate trained. Up to date on shots. He has done well with our children so far, but we simply do not have the time to give him the proper attention that his breed requires. He does have some anxiety and is not a huge fan of walks, but he loves to run about outside freely. We have tried medications in the past, but it was unsuccessful. We hope to find a good for him.

Jela is a very cute dog, she’s energetic and loves to play outside. She knows the words sit, paw, pound it, up top, outside, eat etc. She does need to be leashed at all times when outside as she has not been trained to know how to be without one. She has lived with another small dog before and they were good together. She is reactive at times but other than that she’s a really good dog.

To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Wants to be best friends with everyone she meets and likes to be petted once she feels comfortable - Likes chasing balls and will also keep your yard free of rabbits - Her foster family has affectionately nicknamed her "Ferret" because she's long and skinny and jumps in their laps like a ferret - Knows sit and likes treats - Has been doing pretty well with potty training, although her foster family said she may have accidents if she's not let out at bedtime - Used to sleeping in her crate at night and does well in her crate when her foster family is away - Can be a little nervous on car rides - Has been known to jump 6-foot fences, so please plan on supervising her or having her on a leash when outdoors to keep her safe and secure - Has lived with kids in her foster home - Has done well with other dogs in her foster home and likes to play, but will also let them know with a grumble when she's done playing; may be unsure of some dogs (dog intro recommended) - Needs a home with no cats or small animals - she's just too interested in chasing them This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org.All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs.
