Story
Nicki had been living tied up on a 3 ft rope for over 6 months when we were contacted about her. The week prior to her coming into rescue her owner had abandoned her with no food or water. Fortunately this was a time when there was a lot of rain, or she may not have survived. We were sent a video of a stranger giving her tortilla’s, we knew right then we had to help her. Her body language towards this stranger, was a testament to what a sweet girl she was. Nicki has now been with one of our fosters since March 1st but this was only supposed to be a temporary situation and we are hoping to find someone else in the San Diego area that can continue fostering or ultimately willing to adopt her. Nicki is very approachable and bonds very quickly. However, once she settles in to her new environment she will start getting protective, she is a guardian breed and this is to be expected. In Nicki’s previous life her owner took her to dog parks and all around town with him. However, a puppy presa is very different than an adult presa and we would never advocate for this. We have seen her be reactive on a leash when another dog barks at her. She’s also shown a desire to play when observing other playful dogs. We have not had her loose around other dogs and cannot say one way or another if she’s good with other dogs. However, we can say most altercations with new dogs is due to owner failure and going to fast. Ideally we are hoping to find a home without other dogs or a home that can initially keep her separate from other dogs and has the ability to slowly integrate and we can help with this process. Presa’s are known for same sex aggression and we will not consider homes with other female dogs. She has been reactive when she sees cats, and we will not consider homes with a cat. She has loved all children she meets but our fosters have very respectful children that are very familiar with large dogs, and for us to consider children we would need to meet your children and hear about your parenting style before considering. When Nicki is out and about with her foster she generally ignores other people but there was an incident where she barked at two guys walking by. She is a presa, this is normal, and anyone looking to bring her into their home needs to have guardian breed experience. We have an application process. There will be a homecheck and an interview to help us determine the suitability of the placement. Please do not call the number listed. If you are interested in meeting her send us a message and let us know if you are interested in fostering or adopting (our screening process is different) and we will forward you an application. We can only utilize foster homes in the San Diego area and do give priority to San Diego adopters but will consider out of the area adopters for well qualified, experienced homes.

Story
We are working with another rescue in an effort to find a foster and ultimately forever home for Hank. Hank is a sweet boy (just a pup) that was originally rescued from a shelter in Northern California. He was a shelter favorite and one of the volunteers would take him home at night and he did fine with the other dogs in the house. Due to his breed, however, homes with other dogs will only be considered if they are opposite sex (female). The rescue that pulled Hank had a home lined up for him that fell through due a family emergency and no fault of Hank’s. He is now being boarded in San Diego and needs an experienced foster or ultimately an adopter. Hank has never shown aggression but is a guardian breed and as he matures or gets settled into his new home, his guarding instincts may become more prevalent. This is something to be expected with the breed and for an adopter to be aware of and capable of safely managing.

These pups are in San Diego, California too!

Story
Your Gentle Giant Looking for Love! Hello there, I'm Hippo, a 4-year-old Bull Mastiff mix, a big boy at 92 lbs, and neutered. I was pulled from the Riverside shelter by TAP and I am so grateful for that! I have picked up bathroom manners, working on leash manners. I have separation  anxiety and current medications to help with separation anxiety include Trazodone (~$7.00), Gabapentin (~$13.00), Acepromazine as needed (~$25.00), and Prozac (~$5.00). Monthly cost depending on where purchased and market value.  I may look imposing at first glance, but once you get to know me, you'll see I'm the sweetest and most loveable companion you could ever ask for. I love affection, and snuggling up next to my humans is one of my favorite pastimes. I'm generally friendly with other dogs, but I might need a slow introduction to make sure we're all on the same page. When I'm inside the house, I sometimes get a bit anxious and bark at people passing by, but don't worry – once we're outside, I'll mostly be an observer, calmly taking in the world around me. I can show some leash reactivity though. With some patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement training, I'm sure I can overcome this behavior. I adore outdoor adventures and walks, but I can get a little distracted if there's too much going on around me. I find night walks with minimal distractions to be the best for me. That way, I can focus on our quality time together without getting overwhelmed by everything happening around us. One of my quirks is that I like to playfully bite ankles and wrists when I want to wake you up or just engage in some playtime. I promise it's all in good fun! But for this reason, a family with older kids or adults might be a better fit for me. I would absolutely love a fun-loving home with a yard! Having a safe and secure place to play and explore would make me one happy pup! I'm quite adaptable, so whether you lead an active lifestyle or prefer a more laid-back approach, I'll fit right in. Just as long as I get plenty of love and attention, I'll be content. So, are you ready to open your heart and home to a gentle giant like me? I guarantee that with a little understanding, patience, and love, I'll be the most loyal and loving companion you could ever wish for. Let's embark on this incredible journey together, creating unforgettable memories and forging an unbreakable bond. ##1733826##
