Story
Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 8/15/2026:  Swami - male - 4 years old - 10.10 pounds - Schnauzer/ Pug mix Reason for intake:  Swami came in with his brother, Skrump.  They were posted in a Facebook group by the owner's niece a few days ago and we were tagged multiple times in the post.  A lady involved in trying to find a place for them reached out to us.  The owner is in the hospital, pretty much in a hospice state, so her precious dogs needed a place to go.  We met her son at the home and retrieved the dogs.  They'd been left there for days with someone going to feed and water them but sadly, the owner has not been able to take care of them or her house for quite some time.  They were loaded with fleas and the house was in terrible shape.  Please, NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS.  The poor dogs were terrified and urinated on themselves as we were loading them.  On the ride to the rescue, though, they started whining a bit so I talked softly to them to help them know it's ok.  Swami has sores on his little body from scratching the fleas were all over the sores.  He's missing quite a bit of hair too... more so than Skrump.  They both got baths and we got rid of the fleas immediately with a Capstar and then flea preventive.  They got a good meal, some fresh water and a clean kennel.  We know they might be scared with everything going on but soon, they'll realize it's just a new chapter for them.  They are heading to the vet the week of 8/17/2026, for neutering and everything else they need.  Stay tuned!  Our prayers and thoughts go out to the family of their former owner as they go through this journey. NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS:  Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed.  Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining.   In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason.  We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption.  In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered.  Please note…  we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption.  Please wait until the dog is available for adoption.  We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link:  https://www.facebook.com/share/1B46skRWF5/ OR you can keep checking our website at www.roadtorescuela.org.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”  ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~  Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life.  Blessings. Story
Sparrow is a 7‑year‑old Pug/Chihuahua mix weighing 15 pounds, and she’s as gentle and affectionate as they come. This sweet‑natured girl loves nothing more than belly rubs, a good scratch behind her ears, and a warm lap to snuggle on. She thrives on human affection and is happiest when she’s close to her people. Sparrow gets along well with the dogs in her social group, enjoying their company while still preferring quiet moments of one‑on‑one attention. Her calm, loving demeanor makes her a wonderful companion for someone looking for a tender, devoted little friend. Sparrow has Cushing’s disease, which means she will require lifelong medication to keep her healthy and comfortable. She handles her routine well, and with proper care, she can continue to live a happy, full life.
