Story
Nix is getting her first taste of home life, and she's making quiet, steady progress every day. After surviving in a hoarding case dog pack and then spending a year in the shelter, she's naturally cautious around people and unfamiliar situations. She's currently thriving in a foster home with a professional trainer and a balanced pack of dogs, where she's learning that humans can be safe and predictable. Nix is an easy roommate in many ways: Quiet she doesn't bark. Crate trained and absolutely loves her crate (she'll even hop right into it for car rides). Walks nicely on a leash. Great with cats, she ignores them and doesn't chase. Coexists beautifully with other dogs. Very food motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding. What Nix needs most is a patient person who enjoys building trust. She can be nervous around people and may slip quickly through doorways or tight spaces, so she'll need a secure yard and someone mindful of management while her confidence grows. She can be picked up and petted, though she isn't seeking affection just yet, but she does seek connection in her own way, quietly keeping an eye on her person wherever they go. Nix would do best in an adult home with a secure yard and someone who finds joy in watching a shy dog blossom. The bond you build with her won't happen overnight, but it will be one you've earned. If you are interested in Nix or have some questions about her, please call or text her foster mom Kelly at (406) 600-9422.

Story
Taz has a can’t-stop-me attitude in a small body. She was rescued from a hoarding case of over 20 dogs, so she didn’t get a lot of individual attention. She spent some time at the Las Vegas NM shelter waiting for the hoarding legal issues to be resolved. All the while, her back legs are misshapen due to luxating patellas (kneecaps). But that does not discourage Taz. She can keep up with the big dogs on walks or a game of fetch. When Taz got to her foster home, she was a wild child. She didn’t know the enjoyment of being touched or taken for walks. But she has discovered the luxuries of pet life and is now enjoying pets, riding in a backpack on longer walks, riding in the car, and a nice soft place to sleep. Taz is undergoing surgery in late March to move her kneecaps back where they should be. She has no pain now, but as she ages, leaving her knees as they are may cause arthritis later in life. Her foster mom will help her recover, unless an adoptive home comes along that is willing to help her after surgery. Taz will be recovered to enjoy life with straight legs around mid-May. If you're interested in meeting Taz, come to our adoption event on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 11am-2pm, located at 6300 San Mateo NE in the south Sprouts parking lot. Alternatively, we can arrange a Private Meet-and-Greet with the foster parent and your household with a completed application. Complete an easy, no-obligation online application and take the first step towards welcoming Taz into your home by clicking on this link https://form.jotform.com/222028369049155 The $250 adoption fee covers all vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, and heartworm/tick-borne illness testing.
