Story
Hi! I'm Caramel! I came to Pittsburgh from an over populated shelter in West Virginia. I am so much happier in my foster's home than the shelter. I am close to two years old and I'm sure I'm a multitude of dog breeds, but the shelter is calling me a pug and a chihuahua. I am quite muscular though, so I think maybe my great grandfather had a mix of pitbull or shar pei. I am small, strong, and compact. I have such a curly tail, soft fur, a beautiful smile, and some face wrinkles! I am almost two years old and full of energy where I like to play fetch but also am quite content sitting on the couch with you. I am fully house broken but am kept safe in a crate when my foster family leaves the house. Once I find my perfect home, I will be a loyal and strong housemate. I like to act like I own the house, I mean, I do own the house, don't I? If someone I don't know enters my home, I will bark. I will let them know this is my house until I trust them. I'm not aggressive, I just like people to know they aren't welcome until I say so. I need to protect my family because I've been bounced around enough these last few months. My foster mom keeps saying I'm trainable and I'm not sure what that means, but I think it means I get all the treats I want so please, don't hold those back. I love walks and get really excited when I see you grab my leash. I love to sleep under the blankets, so please don't expect your bed to remain made if you let me in your bedroom (please let me be in your bedroom!). I might be fine with another sibling, but I've been a little jealous when other dogs are getting my foster mom's attention or if they get too close to my toys, so I'm looking for a place of my own or with someone who has another dog my size and can help curb my resource guarding. A peaceful house without children running around and not too many visitors would be ideal. If you think you fit my lifestyle, please put your app in! Story
Small Male Pug Adult | Weight:  27 pounds   While it might be several weeks until the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp begins, Franco is ready to go right now!   This handsome boy is approximately 8-9 years old and weighs about 27 pounds. He’s on a weight loss journey, but like his foster momma tells him, “we didn’t gain it in a month, buddy, so we’re not gonna lose it in a month!” Slow and steady wins the race, although there is nothing slow about this guy.  He may be 8 or 9, but he still has the moves. From the moment he wakes up in the morning (more about that in a bit), he bounds off the bed and down his doggie steps to find a favorite stuffie, which changes by the hour most days.  He’s a gentleman, though, and never destroys them.    And speaking of being a gentleman, this boy will not wake you at some ungodly hour in the morning to go out or be fed. In fact, he’s typically still snoozing while his foster mom has already finished her coffee! He is well-mannered and will sit while being leashed and unleashed, takes treats gently, and walks nicely on leash (after an initial pull or two). He knows several commands, including “come, sit, place, stay,” and is working on “down.”    Franco loves to be near his human, either in a dog bed in the same room as you or curled up on your lap.  One of his favorite things to do is burrow under a blanket with his stuffie and rest his head on some part of your body.  He also enjoys a good game of tug. And while he may be small, he is mighty, and takes his guard duty seriously, although he is a bit of a couch potato and believes no day is complete without several good naps.   Franco is house-trained, crate-trained, and is fine with other dogs.  Cats, not so much. He would do best in a calm household without small children. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.   If you’re looking for a loyal and loving best friend, Franco would be a great addition to your team!   Apply directly at www.pawsacrosspittsburgh.com/adopt through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA 15144, KL#16182. ##1621323##
